NRLW Casualty Ward: Mino-Sinapati out for season

Titans youngster Destiny Mino-Sinapati has suffered a serious knee injury and will miss the 2024 NRLW season.

Scans have revealed the 19-year-old requires surgery for a season-ending knee injury after beginning the year in the BMD Premiership with the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

The Titans have begun the process with the NRL to have a replacement player approved to join the top 24 roster following Mino-Sinapati’s injury.

Broncos playmaker Gayle Broughton is building up to a return to running after undergoing surgery just prior to Christmas to fix a painful back injury.

The 27-year-old played the entire 2023 NRLW season with a L4–L5 disc bulge in her lower back that was pressing against nerves, which was only diagnosed at the conclusion of the campaign.

After undergoing back surgery three days before Christmas last year Broughton is now nearing a return to activity, with plans to start boxing and then running in coming weeks, and the five-eighth says she is in no doubt for Round 1 of the NRLW.

“It’s been a real eye opener for me, having to learn how to move my body again and be OK with moving it again and learning to trust it," Broughton said.

"For the four weeks after surgery you basically can not move, you're on your back and can't do anything.

"But now I am so excited for what’s ahead. I’ve got a new back and I’m not going to take it for granted."

Sharks fullback Jada Taylor meanwhile is facing a six-month rehabilitation period following shoulder surgery in November to fix an injury suffered during the 2023 NRLW season.

The 20-year-old flyer was injured in Round 7 against the Broncos but was able to delay her surgery until the off-season and had a procedure in November to stabilise her shoulder.

She is expected to be back fit for the start of the 2024 pre-season, along with forward Rhiannon Byers who has recovered from a wrist injury picked up last season.

Cowboys winger Autumn-Rain Stephens-Daly is expected to miss the 2024 NRLW season as she recovers from a torn ACL, while North Queensland teammate Shaniah Power will be good to go after missing the back end of NRLW season with a foot problem.

Roosters hooker Shawden Burton won't resume contact training until June, which will leave her racing the clock to take the field in Round 1, while Aliyah Nasio (arm) and Shannon Rose (finger) will both be able to play from early this year.

Raiders prop Hollie-Mae Dodd had surgery in September after suffering an ACL injury in Round 8 of the NRLW and is on track to return for pre-season training.

Fellow Canberra forwards Simaima Taufa and Sophie Holyman have now undergone shoulder surgery and are also expected back for pre-season training.
