The Holden State of Origin series is with us again for another year, and we at NRL.com are celebrating by asking fans to vote on their favourite Origin moment.
Today, we pit the final Origin match of a modern rugby league great against a crucial intercept try from one of the NRL's most popular players.
Lockyer bows out a winner
Darren Lockyer would bow out of the Origin arena after Game Three, 2011 after 36 appearances for the Maroons. The stage was set for Queensland to win an unprecedented sixth straight series in Lockyer's swansong and he wasn't left disappointed. After punching their way out to a 24-nil lead within the first 35 minutes Queensland halted the Blues' mini-revival to win the series decider 34-24. The future Immortal left the Origin arena with the Origin shield hoisted above his head in front of a 52,000 people at Suncorp Stadium to bring the curtain down on one of rugby league's most decorated representative careers.
Matt Bowen's intercept
However sad it may be, Brett Kimmorley won't be best remembered on the Origin stage for the good times earlier in his representative career, thanks to a certain intercept pass he threw in Game One, 2005. The pass that Queenslanders would live on in infamy occurred three minutes into golden point extra time with the scores locked at 20-all. With the halfback attempting to chance his arm in his own half, Kimmorley attempted a long-range pass out wide only for a young Matthew Bowen to pluck the ball out of the air to run 30 metres downfield and score, securing a 24-20 victory for Queensland.
