Broncos v Warriors – Round 17, 2025

The win propelled Michael Maguire's side to fifth on the ladder as Reece Walsh pressed his claims to replace the injury Kalyn Ponga as Queensland fullback.

The loss came at a cost for the Warriors, with Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and Luke Metcalf both suffering knee injuries. There are initial fears Metcalf may have injured his ACL.

The Dragons were also hit hard by injuries as they withstood a furious Parramatta rally to hold on for a 34-20 victory at a sold-out WIN Stadium.

Winger Christian Tuipulotu suffered a hamstring injury in the warm up, with Nathan Lawson rushed into the side. Luciano Leilua then injured his quad late in the first half, Hamish Stewart failed an HIA shortly after the break and Toby Couchman dislocated his shoulder.

Dragons v Eels – Round 17, 2025

The hosts were left without a healthy player on the bench when Viliami Fifita suffered a cork.

The hosts led 26-4 at the break, however the mounting physical toll saw the Eels come roaring back into the contest. The visitors pulled within six and came close to equalising before Val Holmes sealed the win with a late try.

The action then returned to Suncorp Stadium, with the venue transformed into a Dolphins home ground for their clash with the Rabbitohs.

Halfback Isaiya Katoa pulled the strings as the hosts ran in eight tries in a 50-28 victory. Fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow scored four tries in his 100th NRL game.

The game came at a cost for both teams with each side losing their five-eighth to hamstring injuries.

Dolphins No.6 Kodi Nikorima limped from the field late in the first half, while Cody Walker succumbed to his issue in the 65th minute after initially attempting to play through it.

Eels: Round 17

That was a fascinating game of football at a sold out WIN Stadium and there will be plenty of fall out to discuss in the post-game press conferences so make sure you check out the live stream to hear from Jason Ryles and Shane Flanagan.

Full-time: The Dragons have secured the two points with a 34-20 victory but a glance at the scoreboard does not reflect how chaotic that match was. St George Illawarra were superb in the first half, scoring five tries to jump out to a 26-4 lead at the break.

The Eels came roaring back in the second, pulling within six and putting considerable pressure on the hosts in front of more than 18,000 fans at WIN Stadium. Parramatta looked like scoring the equaliser on multiple occasions, but St George Illawarra held firm before Valentine Holmes eventually scored the match-sealing try.

The Eels comeback came amid a torrid injury toll for the Dragons, Christian Tuipulotu suffered a hamstring injury in the warm up, Luciano Leilua left with a quad injury late in the first half, Hamish Stewart was ruled out after a head knock, Toby Couchman picked up a shoulder injury and Viliami Fifita had a knee injury.

Given the injury toll, the match will go down as a famous win for St George Illawarra and will be crucial as they look to make a charge to the finals. Dragons 34 - Eels 20.

79th minute: Things have unravelled slightly for the Eels as they chase the game, with Parramatta conceding a pair of penalties. The second was for a crusher tackle by Kelma Tuilagi, with the forward placed on report. Kyle Flanagan shot for goal to take some time off the clock and he made no mistake. Dragons 34 - Eels 20.

76th minute: Despair has turned to elation for the Dragons faithful with Eels forward Kelma Tuilagi breaking through the defensive line. St George Illawarra scrambled well and Zac Lomax forced an offload, with Val Holmes picking up the loose ball and racing more than 60 metres to score a crucial try. Dragons 32 - Eels 20.

73rd minute: The Dragons can catch a short breath after an impressive defensive stand. The Eels had multiple sets on the attack however St George Illawarra held firm before forcing an error from Jack Williams. A penalty then followed a couple of tackles later and the Dragons have made their way into attacking territory. Dragons 26 - Eels 20.

70th minute: The Dragons continue to just hold off, however the physical toll continues to grow. Viliami Fifita is receiving treatment on the bench for a leg injury, potentially leaving the hosts without a healthy reserve. Jaydn Su'A is also banged up and reeled out of a tackle gingerly.

Parramatta continue to generate results by kicking bombs to Zac Lomax and they have just forced a fresh set of six with less than 10 minutes remaining. Dragons 26 - Eels 20.

63rd minute: Massive moment at WIN Stadium, with Sean Russell looking to score a try, however the touch judge raised his flag ruling Josh Addo-Carr had stepped on the touchline before he passed infield to Russell. The Dragons hold on. Dragons 26 - Eels 20.

The winger has attracted plenty of attention from the Dragons fans in his return to Wollongong and there were big cheers when his conversion attempt sailed wide. Dragons 26 - Eels 8.

Kick off: We're back for the second half at a sold-out WIN Stadium, with Dragons fans eager to see their team kick on after the break. The Eels are sure to throw plenty at their opponents and they're looking to start fast as they attempt a comeback bid.

The hosts have been dealt a blow, with Luciano Leilua ruled out for the remainder of the match with a quad injury. The forward will be sent for scans over the coming days to determine the severity of the injury. Dragons 26 - Eels 4.

Half-time: A Hamish Stewart hit up brings an end to a dominant half of footy from the Dragons. In their best 40 minutes of the season, the hosts ran in five tries to one to blow their opponents off the park.

St George Illawarra outgained the Eels by 950m to 685m with David Klemmer and the forward pack laying the foundation up front. Warriors: Round 17

Fulltime: A strong first half set the Broncos up for their 26-12 win against the Warriors who will be ruing a poor half which started in the opening set with an error and didn't get much better from there. They then suffered injuries to fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad who took no part in the second half and then halfback Luke Metcalf who came off later in the second half, both with leg injuries. The Broncos however, boosted by a big home crowd, put on a strong display in attack and were able to work their way through some wobbles in the second half when the Warriors were threatening a comeback. Gehamat Shibasaki scored a double in a great display.

76th min: After a hectic few minutes of back and forth with the Warriors fighting back, the Broncos finally seemed to have quelled their uprising with Shibasaki finally getting his second try after being denied earlier. The Broncos once again make the Warriors pay for an error - this time a penalty for obstruction coming out of their own end - going out to their left to score. Reynolds converts for a 26-12 lead.

67th min: Great try to the Warriors. Leka Halasima chases and collect a Harris-Tevita kick to the left of the uprights and comes down with the ball untouched. Adam Pompey converts with Metcalf off the field. Broncos lead 20-12

Injury update - Metcalf is forced from the field with a reported leg issue and Brendan Piakura is put on report after a big hit on the Warriors halfback.

64th min: Shibasaki is denied another try after he knocks on an attempt to collect a clever Reynolds kick in behind which bounced over the

52nd min: The Broncos edge further in front again with another penalty goal from Reynolds. While Warriors fans may feel aggrieved, it was deemed that Walsh was taken off his chase by Jackson Ford, giving up an escort penalty. Broncos lead 20-6.

46th min: Finally the Warriors are on the board after making use of their back-to-back possessions. Experienced winger Roger Tuivasa-Sheck hugs the left sideline, puts his head down and runs straight over to score. Metcalf converts the tough kick and it's 18-6

44th min: Warriors are denied a try after their best attacking passage of play in the entire game. A messy lead up with Jesse Arthars knocking on a Harris-Tevita kick before the kicker himself also knocks on in his attempt to clean up. Warriors however get a scrum on their 10 metre line and another chance to attack.

Injury update - 41st min: Wayde Egan has passed his HIA and is back on the field for the Warriors. However, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad has not come back after the first half with a knee issue.

Crowd update: The opening game at Suncorp Stadium today has attracted a crowd of 43,434.

Halftime: A late try in the final seconds of the half to the Broncos has given them an 18-0 lead at the break, better reflecting their complete dominance of the half. The Warriors have been their own worst enemy with their discipline, while the football gods have also favoured the Broncos with some lucky bounces on top of their overall good play. The Broncos have had 60% of the possession with 19/22 completion rate compared to 11/15 for Warriors. While the home side have actually made more errors (six v five), the Warriors have conceded five penalties as well which have duly been punished by the Broncos.

40th min: After a scrappy final 10 minutes from both sides, the Broncos spark in the final seconds, with Shibasaki running onto a short ball from Reece Walsh down their short side to score just before the break. Warriors had been defending their line gallantly for that period, but luck has been on the side of the Broncos, with a kick attempt ricocheting off a Warrior straight back to the Broncos to give them another attacking set. Reynolds converts and it's 18-0 at the break.

34th min: A successful captain's challenge for the Broncos after Gehamat Shibasaki was deemed to have knocked on, with the Bunker instead finding a stripping motion from the Warriors.

33rd min: A try to the Warriors for Harris-Tevita is denied by the Bunker after the Broncos do a great job to hold him up as he comes down with a Luke Metcalf kick close to the line. Scores remain 12-0

Injury update - 30th min: Wayde Egan comes off for the Warriors for a HIA after coming off second best trying to stop Brendan Piakura.

24th min: The Broncos edge even further in front with Reynolds nailing a penalty goal after a scrum infringement for Chanel Harris-Tavita. Broncos lead 12-0.

15th min: More ill discipline from the Warriors gets punished instantly with a penatly getting the Broncos down field to attack. The home side go to their left, with a great pass out from Ezra Mam finding an unmarked Karapani to stroll over. Reynolds can't convert and it's 10-0 to the Broncos.

Kotoni Staggs Try

3rd min: Broncos are the first on the board with Kotoni Staggs bouncing out of an attempted tackle from Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad after he launched onto an Adam Reynold kicks in behind to score. The Warriors had the worst possible start, giving up the ball with an error in their own 10 to gift Broncos possession. Reynolds converts for an early 6-0 lead.
