A stunning Sunday triple of NRL action produced 31 tries and 168 points as the Broncos, Roosters and Eels registered vital wins.

The Broncos trailed by 10 at the break after the Sharks got off to a flyer but with Reece Walsh and Kotoni Staggs at their damaging best the home side powered home with four second-half tries to have the Suncorp Stadium faithful in raptures.

With four points separating fifth and 14th on the ladder as we headed into Round 16, a win was imperative for all the sides stuck in that logjam, including the Roosters and Cowboys, who featured in Sunday's second game.

With James Tedesco again electric, the Roosters proved far too slick for the Cowboys, who have now conceded 100 points in the past two weeks.

The final game of Round 16 pitted the Eels against the Titans and it was the home side registering their fifth win of the season on the back of sensational performances by fullback Isaiah Iongi and wingers Zac Lomax and Josh Addo-Carr.

The Titans now sit alone in last place with a 4-10 record as they head into a Round 17 clash with the equally desperate Cowboys.

Tedesco: That's probably our best of the year

74th min: When you're hot, you're hot and the Chooks are just that, scoring a crazy lucky try when they look like they had crossed the right touchline three times but didn't with Nawaqanitawase getting his double after the Rooster just keep the ball alive. Smith can't convert and it's 42-8

64th min: Murray Taulagi doesn't fib about getting the ball down and is awarded the second try of the game for the Cowboys despite a huge hit from Tedesco just as he was putting it down right next to the left touchline. Another missed conversion and it's 38-8 to the Roosters.

Murray Taulagi Try

60th min: Some luck for the Cowboys with Savala losing the ball over the try line with Cowboys defenders doing well this time to force an error to ensure the Bunker takes his try away.

56th min: It's one way traffic to the Roosters and for something different, they kick out to the left wing of Daniel Tupou who takes the ball cleanly and strolls over untouched. Smith can't convert this one and it's 38-4.

50th min: And another for the Roosters in quick succession with Mark Nawaqanitawase taking an intercept from Tom Dearden who was trying to link with his outside players. The Fijian gets over to push the lead to 28-4 despite the chase from Zac Laybutt. Smith can't convert.

Mark Nawaqanitawase 1st Try

47th min: The Roosters go further in front with Billy Smith getting his second after some short passing in the middle of the field finds Hugo Savala who runs through the middle before passing out to Smith who escapes the grasp of defenders close to the line to score. Sandon Smith converts and it's a 24-4 lead.

Half-time: An error riddled half of football from both sides (six from the Roosters and eight to the Cowboys) comes to a close with the Roosters leading 18-4. The home side got out to an early lead before both sides settled into the game, but the Roosters got the advantage by scoring two tries in two minutes in the middle of the half. The Cowboys have fought back to stem the points later in the half but have plenty of work to do if they are to turn this deficit around.

30th min: Finally some joy for the Cowboys who get their first try of the match, with Braidon Burns showing determination to get to the line on the right. North Queensland tried going direct with Coen Hess powering towards the line, but he was stopped short, with the visitors successful after swinging the ball wide. Drinkwater can't convert and they trail 18-4

Smith converts and the Roosters have surged to an 18-0 lead.

Injury update: Roosters forward Siua Wong is out of the game with a reported MCL injury.

24th min: After some fairly even back and forth, the Roosters go over for their second with Sandon Smith putting in a little kick behind the defence for a chasing Billy Smith who runs in to score. The Cowboys gave up field position when a kick into the in-goal was just that bit too long, giving up a seven tackle set. Sandon Smith converts and it's 12-0 to the home side.

5th min: After an error from Murray Taulagi in the play the ball, the Cowboys give up another penalty and a set restart to give the Roosters a perfect opportunity to score and they take it, with unlikely first try scorer Lindsay Collins going over. Sandon Smith converts for an early 6-0 lead.

Gehamat Shibasaki 2nd Try

68th min: The Broncos have had most of the momentum in the second half and they hit the front for the first time with Reynolds slotting a sideline conversion for a try he helped set up for Karapani, fending off would-be tacklers on the Sharks line before basketballing a pass up and over to the left to his winger. Broncos lead 30-28

64th min: Sharks denied a comeback try with Kennedy knocking the ball on when contesting a kick, going up with Walsh.

57th min: Josiah Karapani goes back-to-back for the Broncos, with the try awarded by the referee and confirmed by the Bunker, despite the Sharks protesting that Hynes was obstructed in the lead up by Jack Gosiewski running his line. The Sharks put their arms out to protest instead of playing on and defending and with Reynolds converting, their lead is cut to 28-24

54th min: Gehamat Shibasaki goes over for the Broncos after a dominant period for the home side who get a scrum after Mulitalo is deemed to have knocked a ball on. Gehamat Shibasaki 1st Try

47th min: Despite having a player in the bin, the Sharks are the first to score in the second half, with Blayke Brailey going over from dummyhalf, with Cronulla capitalising on a penalty they received charging down to their side of the field after a high shot. Hynes converts and the Sharks go further ahead, leading 28-12.

41st min - injury update: The Sharks return to the field with only 12 players with Katoa in the bin for the opening of the second half. They also have lost Teig Wilton for the afternoon, with reports he has gone to hospital with blurred vision after receiving a poke in the eye.

Halftime: A dramatic and seesawing first half with six tries scored in entertaining fashion. The Sharks look to have more of the momentum overall, but let in the last try of the half, and will also be down to 12 players to start the second half after what can only be described as a brain explosion from Katoa to get himself sin binned in the final seconds of the half. Sharks lead 22-12.

40th min: Drama in the final seconds of the first half with Sione Katoa sent to the sin bin for a professional foul, interfering in the ruck, while offside and impeding Mam coming from dummyhalf. Then - the Broncos try to kick of touch, only for Will Kennedy to make a spectacular save, keeping the ball in. Broncos choose to use their captain's challenge, but are unsuccessful.

31st min: And the Sharks are in again, this time the halves combine with Trindall popping a cute short ball to Hynes when it looked like he'd go out wider, with the halfback running in for his second try of the year. Hynes converts his own try and the Sharks lead 22-6

26th min: Massive momentum shifts so far in this half, with the Sharks in for their third - a second for Kennedy - after a kick into the in-goal was caught of the full from the Sharks, giving them a seven-tackle set. They work they way out of their own half, with Hynes getting a nice short ball to Nikora who sprints away, passing back inside to his fullback to score. Hynes converts and it's 16-6 to Cronulla.

19th min: The Sharks give up back-to-back penalties and give Broncos good field position which they use, with Cory Paix making the most of some inattentive marker defence to go over from dummy half close to the line. Adam Reynolds converts from in front and Sharks lead 10-6

13th min: The visitors go back-to-back with an impressive team try that starts with them running their way up the field with plenty of freedom before Braydon Trindall puts his stamp on in with a dummy to Teig Wilton who runs a great line before passing back inside to Will Kennedy to score. No mistake from Hynes who converts for a 10-0 lead.

5th min: Sharks are first on the board with Sifa Talakai, playing centres today, running in after the Broncos can't handle a high kick from the Sharks, spilling the ball to give the visitors their opportunity. They send it left for Talakai to run in untouched. The conversion attempt from Nicho Hynes is waved away and Sharks lead 4-0

Mawene Hiroti has been ruled out of the clash, with Siosifa Talakai shifting to the centres as a result. Oregon Kaufusi will miss the game due to hamstring tightness, so Braden Hamlin-Uele comes into the starting side and Hohepa Puru joins the bench. There are no late changes.
