Valentine Holmes believes US sports fans will be stunned to learn that the Dragons won a world record 11 consecutive premiership when they take on the Bulldogs in an NRL derby in Las Vegas.
Holmes had a stint in NFL with the New York Jets in 2019 and is aware of how much stock Americans place in the history and statistics of sports teams, but nothing compares to the Red V’s streak of grand final wins from 1956 to 1966.
It's on again!
The most consecutive Super Bowl wins by any team is two, with Kansas City Chiefs falling short of an elusive three-peat this year when they lost to Jordan Mailata’s Philadelphia Eagles.
Tom Brady led New England Patriots to four Super Bowls between 2015 and 2019, winning three, while the Pittsburgh Steelers won four titles in six years (1975-76 and 1979-80) and the Dallas Cowboys won in 1993, 1994 and 1996.
“I reckon Americans will be gobsmacked, to be honest. It’s such a massive achievement and the most in NFL is probably the Patriots or now you’ve got Kansas City, but to win 11 in a row in a brutal sport like ours is hard to do,” Holmes said.
“When I first got to the club, I didn't realise the impact or the history of the club, and the success they've had.
“Now that I've learned that you can see why the fans and the fan base are so passionate and why it means so much to them when we run out at Kogarah and at WIN Stadium.”

NRL stars react to Las Vegas team announcements
The goalkicking centre has also learned about the fierce rivalry between the Dragons and Bulldogs, who triumphed 7-6 in the 1985 grand final.
While Sydney Roosters and South Sydney were part of the NRL’s first foray to Las Vegas in 2024, the 1908 foundation clubs played Brisbane and Manly respectively, and this year’s NRL match ups were Panthers v Sharks and Raiders v Warriors.
As a result, the Dragons v Bulldogs match will be the first time the NRL has staged a traditional derby match in Las Vegas and Holmes called for Red V fans to fill Allegiant Stadium for the clash.

Showmen of Vegas: Tyrell Sloan
“To take a game to Vegas, I reckon we'll get a lot of fans coming over to support us, which is what you want and hopefully we can pack it out in the Red V,” he said.
“The rivalry is something that's obviously built over the years, with the history of both clubs and I think that's probably one thing that’s one thing we need to let the American fans, or any fans out there who want to come and watch it, know about.
“It's going to be very close contact and a brutal game, and that’s what most fans and people want to see, as well as the fancy tries that the backs put on.

“Any chance you get to pull on a jersey in an occasion like that is pretty exciting and I’ve felt a bit jealous watching other teams go over to kick off the season so for the Dragons to get that opportunity in 2026, we’re over the moon.”
