The Cowboys are out to avenge an early season defeat when they host a desperate Manly side in Townsville on Saturday evening.

Plenty has changed since the two teams faced off in Round 1, where the Sea Eagles claimed a comprehensive 42-12 victory at 4 Pines Park.

North Queensland eventually found form and have been among the best teams in the competition in the past month. Manly have struggled recently, winning just one of past five to fall to eighth on the ladder.

Saturday's match is the last chance for players from both sides to press their claims for a State of Origin call up, with Tom and Jake Trbojevic each pushing for NSW selection.

Manly halfback Daly Cherry-Evans and Cowboys five-eighth Tom Dearden are fighting for a position in the Maroons halves and this week's clash could help determine who wears the No.7 jersey in the Origin opener.

Team News

Cowboys: Young gun Jaxon Purdue has shifted from centre to five-eighth in a major shake up to the North Queensland attack, with Tom Dearden to play halfback. Zac Laybutt comes into the centres and is set for his first NRL match since tearing his ACL in Round 5 last year. Jake Clifford is 18th man.

Sea Eagles: Jake Trbojevic has returned to his primary position of lock as he looks to play his way back into a NSW jumper. The shuffle has seen Jazz Tevaga move back to hooker, with Ethan Bullemor to start at prop and Jake Simpkin shifting to the bench. Caleb Navale has also been added to the interchange in place of Clayton Faulalo. Michael Chee Kam is 18th man.
