The festival of football kicks off with the Sharks meeting the Eels, who arrive fresh off a bye and a strong win over Wests Tigers on Easter Monday.

The Sharks will be smarting after letting a win slip through their fingers at Leichhardt Oval last Sunday when they had several chances to knock over a field goal in golden point but took the ball wide of the posts.

The Eels have tasted victory only once in five trips to Magic Round and last year were on the end of 48-16 belting from the Melbourne Storm, while the Sharks got home 38-30 over the Roosters at Magic Round 2024.

On the back of a standout performance in his first game back from injury against Wests Tigers, Mitch Moses looks to step up again and lead the Eels to victory by getting the better of Nicho Hynes in the battle of the playmakers.

Team News

Sharks: The Sharks have made two late changes for tonight's Magic Round clash with the Eels. Forward Jesse Colquhoun will join the interchange for his first NRL match of the season in place of utility Daniel Atkinson, who is now the 18th man. Tom Hazelton has been promoted to start in the front row for his 50th NRL appearance, with Oregon Kaufusi switching to the bench. Centre KL Iro was named to make his return from a hamstring injury in a straight swap with Mawene Hiroti, who injured his knee in last week's loss to the Wests Tigers. Braden Hamlin-Uele is also slated for his first NRL game since Round 3 after making a successful return from injury in NSW Cup last week. The forward has been named on the bench.

Eels: One change to the Eels team before kick off with Matt Doorey replaced on the bench by Jordan Samrani. Joash Papalii is the 18th player. Earlier, suspended forward Kelma Tuilagi was replaced by Charlie Guymer in the back row. Dylan Brown and Mitchell Moses will again combine in the halves, with Isaiah Iongi lining up at fullback.
