It's all about the MIDs this week as Terrell May prepares to become Fantasy's only current million-dollar man at the same time as Toby Couchman owners sweat it out over his reduced minutes at the Dragons.

There are a couple of high-performing bargain buys around ahead of Magic Round, while dreams of David Fifita becoming a gun EDG option have been dashed by his demotion out of the 17 by coach Des Hasler for Magic Round.

NRL Fantasy teams analysis: Round 9

Sharks v Eels, Friday at Suncorp Stadium

Sharks: Gun Fantasy centre KL Iro – who is going under a new name from now on – returns from a hamstring injury and becomes a direct replacement for Mawene Hiroti. Prior to suffering a hamstring injury in Round 4, Iro ($688k) had scored four tries in three games and registered two scores of 60+. Addin Fonua-Blake mixed it with the best of the second-tier MIDs last week with a 70, while Nicho Hynes was impressive again on his way to 60.

Eels: Mitchell Moses is still available for under $700k this week and looks a decent point of difference option in the HLFs after hitting 51 in his first game back from injury in Round 7. Cash cow Isaiah Iongi should make money again this week and could start to become a more reliable scorer now that Moses is back in the side and sparking a bit more attack. Kitione Kautoga owners will be hoping for a big improvement from the DPP cheapie after he managed just 16 in his last outing.

Roosters v Dolphins, Friday at Suncorp Stadium

Roosters: A 57-point haul from cheapie HLF Hugo Savala has set him up to make some decent money over the next couple of weeks, with his break even sitting at -16. He was a hugely popular cash down option last week and now sits in almost 27 percent of teams. DPP back Mark Nawaqanitawase continues to keep Dom Young out of the side and is producing keeper-level scoring for a CTR or WFB. Robert Toia (CTR, $442k) might have just about done his dash as a money maker, with a break even of 37 which sits right on his season average.

Dolphins: No sign of the injured Max Plath this week after he withdrew from the squad ahead of kick-off in Round 8. Struggling DPP forward Tom Gilbert finally had a breakthrough with a 64 against the Raiders, but he isn't a player you should be relying on week-to-week. A last-up 48 was Herbie Farnworth's worst score of the season so far, which tells you everything you need to know about what a great Fantasy CTR the Englishman is.

Rabbitohs v Knights, Saturday at Suncorp Stadium

Rabbitohs: A suspension for Latrell Mitchell opens the door for Jye Gray to get the starting fullback role again, and given the way Newcastle have defended at times this season he's a decent chance of racking up a few dynamic attacking stats on Saturday. Peter Mamouzelos is owned by a touch over 40 percent of teams right now, and for good reason; the $589 HOK is proving a very good set and forget option. Cash cow Lachlan Hubner returns from a head knock but has lost his starting role. With a break even of 26, he's still a good chance of not losing money this week, so there's no urgency to move off him right away.

Knights: Despite his team's struggles in attack, Fletcher Sharpe (WFB/HLF, $669k) continues to register keeper level scores. If he stays injury free then Dylan Lucas is probably about as cheap as you'll get him this week, with a break even of 48 that he should beat. Another week of terrible scoring from Kalyn Ponga wasn't what owners needed, but remarkably he still sits in almost a quarter of all teams. There's a very real chance the WFB falls below $500k this week, which was something unimaginable a couple of weeks into this season.

Warriors v Cowboys, Saturday at Suncorp Stadium

Warriors: There will be big movement on Erin Clark this week following an 81 on Anzac Day which lifted him to a last three game average of 65.3. While Clark is likely to lose some minutes when James Fisher-Harris returns (which isn't expected to be until Round 11), his designation as a HOK as well as MID makes him a very tempting prospect at $693k. The Warriors have another excellent Fantasy HOK in Wayde Egan too, with a 72 last week lifting his season average to 57.7. Luke Metcalf doesn't look like being a consistent elite scorer among HLFs, but his good days – like he had last week on his way to a 69 that didn't even include a try or try assist – might end up being as good as any player in his position. $410k EDG Leka Halasima gets another start in the second row, and with a break even of 11 he should shoot up in value once again after Magic Round.

Cowboys: There's plenty to like about Cowboys players in Fantasy right now, with no fewer than five of them registering scores of 70 or above in the drubbing of the Titans. CTR Jaxon Purdue looked dangerous almost every time he touched the ball in Round 8 and ended up being a very popular loop option who finished with 45. He's probably not a buy until after Origin now, but HOK Reece Robson has scored 139 in his past two games and sits in just 2.5 percent of teams.

Wests Tigers v Dragons, Saturday at Suncorp Stadium

Wests Tigers: Terrell May is likely to become the only player in the game worth upwards of $1m after this weekend, following another herculean effort in the middle in Round 8 which saw him play 84 minutes and score 104 points. He's the most-owned player in Fantasy, sitting in 48.67 percent of teams. Lachlan Galvin starred in his return to the NRL side with a 71, and with Origin around the corner he's looking like a nice point of difference option for coaches over the next couple of months. Those who grabbed Adam Doueihi last week hoping he'd keep a spot in the halves would have been relieved to see his score of 52 in the centres.

Dragons: Hugely concerning signs for Toby Couchman owners, with the previously outstanding DPP forward having his minutes cut to a season-low 49 against the Roosters, with his final score of 44 coming as a massive blow to those who had been counting on him remaining a 60+ player. He's a hold for now in the hope that it was a scheduled rest last week, but owners have a right to be nervous. There's a new possible money maker on the scene in rookie HLF Lyhkan King-Togia, who is available at basement price this week and looks to have overtaken Lachlan Ilias in the pecking order. Speaking of cash cows, Dylan Egan only had 33 on Anzac Day but remains a hold who should easily reach a break even of 22 this week.

Titans v Bulldogs, Sunday at Suncorp Stadium

Titans: Beau Fermor was a game-changer for owners last week after busting out a 109-point showing with one of the most dominant first halves you will see from a Fantasy perspective. He was the only Titans player to manage over 50 in the eventual heavy loss to the Cowboys though, with the rest of his teammates, including popular WFB AJ Brimson (44 points) struggling. David Fifita has been punted out of the 17 for Round 9, having only weeks earlier looked a very strong trade-in candidate in Fantasy.

Bulldogs: A new look side for the Dogs following Matt Burton, Josh Curran and Sitili Tupouniua picking up suspensions last week. Of them, Burton is the only one who shapes as a definite hold. A quiet game for Jacob Kiraz means he lost a bit of value after Round 8, but with DPP status as both a WFB and CTR, he remains a good trade-in target in coming weeks.

Panthers v Broncos, Sunday at Suncorp Stadium

Panthers: It was a down week for all of the Panthers' big guns in Fantasy, although when your down week is a 56 – in the case of Nathan Cleary – then you're doing something right. MID Lindsay Smith remains a possible value grab at $694k, but he could yet feature in the Origin arena and miss a bit of time in coming months. Expect Isaah Yeo to bounce back towards 60s after managing 'only' 50 against the Sea Eagles.

Broncos: Being the chief playmaker and goalkicker for a team as potent as the Broncos are this year means Adam Reynolds has a really high ceiling in Fantasy, with last week's 85 the second such score he's achieved in 2025. The floor however is low with him, so be ready to ride the rollercoaster if you are thinking about bringing him in. Selwyn Cobbo exceeded the expectations I had for him last week by scoring 43, but he still doesn't look like being able to achieve elite scores at fullback. Gehamat Shibasaki continues to be a decent starting CTR option.

Storm v Raiders, Sunday at Suncorp Stadium

Storm: Cameron Munster starred last week on his way to a season-best 62, which came as a nice reward for those who have stuck with him through a bunch of uninspiring scores to date. MID/EDG Trent Loiero is starting to come on and has a last three game average of 50, which included a 60 against the Rabbitohs on Anzac Day. It was a mixed day for Ryan Papenhuyzen, with the $607k WFB scoring a try and being sinbinned on his way to a 39. While his season average of 48.1 isn't great, a player like him, in a team like the Storm are right now, is worth holding onto.

Raiders: There are a heap of good Fantasy prospects in this Canberra team right now, with point of difference MID Joseph Tapine (64 points) one of three players who managed to hit a score above 60 over the weekend. Dual position back Savelio Tamale continues to be a serviceable player who is averaging 40 across the season, but the same can't be said for Xavier Savage who is still owned by almost five percent of teams, despite having registered back-to-back single digit scores.
