Caxton Street Road Closure During NRL Magic Round - Information for Magic Round attendees and Lang Park residents

Magic Round is returning to Brisbane, with eight NRL Telstra Premiership matches to be played at Suncorp Stadium from Friday May 2 to Sunday May 4, with a Women’s State of Origin fixture to be played at Suncorp Stadium as a precursor to Magic Round on Thursday May 1.

Magic Round has been hosted exclusively in Brisbane since the concept was introduced in 2019 and is one of the must-see events on the Australian sporting calendar, attracting thousands of visitors from across Australia and the Pacific and injecting over $30 million into the Queensland economy annually.

The four-day festival of Rugby League is expected to draw a record 200,000 fans to take in all the action.

To meet this demand and in the interests of providing attendees with the best possible fan experience, the NRL has once again gained Brisbane City Council approval to expand the Magic Round event footprint onto a section of Caxton Street.

To accommodate this there will be a road closure in place from Friday May 2 at 10.00am until Monday May 5 at 3.00am on Caxton St, between Petrie Tce and Hale St. (see diagram below)

This Caxton Street closure is separate and in addition to the Stadium’s Traffic Management Plan which will be in place for the Magic Round event days.

The Caxton St ‘Magic Mile' an experience will provide free entertainment, games, music and activities for attendees of the Magic Round fixtures. It will be open at the following times:

  • Friday May 2 - 3.00pm to 7.00pm
  • Saturday May 3 - 11.00am to 7.00pm
  • Sunday May 4 - 11.00am to 6.00pm

The NRL has taken taken several learnings from the Caxton Street closure in 2024 with revised plans that minimise any impact to local residents and business owners, including a reduction in barricades to improve pedestrian thoroughfare on each day of the closure.

The full list of fixtures for Suncorp Stadium across the above-mentioned dates is as follows:
