Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) Chairman Peter V’landys AM today paid tribute to Percy Knight, who has passed away.

Knight played 64 matches for Balmain Tigers between 1978 and 1982, and 24 matches for Canberra Raiders from 1983-85, while he was later a Chairman of the Australian Rugby League Indigenous Council.

“Percy rose to prominence representing Monaro against a touring Great Britain side in 1977, before forging a great career with Balmain and Canberra,” Mr V’landys said.

“Percy was something of a trailblazer for Indigenous players and people. An exceptionally smart footballer who put his talents to good use off the field.

“He was a Chairman of the Australian Rugby League Indigenous Council who was passionate about the game, about shaping direction, helping to inspire Indigenous communities and promoting social inclusion.

“On behalf of the Commission, I extend our sincerest condolences to Percy’s family, and all those who knew him.”
