Plenty of Fantasy coaches were hamstrung by injuries in Round 5, while the top captaincy pick for the week struggled too.

Those factors meant overall scores were down on previous weeks, but as you'll see below, it wasn't all bad.

Round 5 Fantasy winners

Those who invested wisely in point of difference players were richly rewarded in Round 5, with the top seven scoring players all sitting in under 10 percent of teams.

It was led by MID Joseph Tapine, who rewarded the 1.65 percent of teams that own him with a monster 86-point effort from just 59 minutes on the field on Thursday night.

That was followed by Clinton Gutherson doubling his previous season-best tally on his way to 83, while Dylan Brown also impressed in that game and hit 81.

Clinton Gutherson Try

Tolutau Koula (81) and Siua Wong (80) rounded out the 80-point scorers.

If you owned one of the starting Raiders EDG players then you went to bed happy on Thursday after Hudson Young and former cheapie Matty Nicholson scored 76 and 74 respectively.

Young shines

Nathan Cleary powered to 71 points despite Penrith's defeat at the hands of the Cowboys, which was enough to ensure he retains his current value going into Round 6, while Sharks cheapie Mawene Hiroti was excellent in the absence of Kayal Iro, scoring a try on his way to 65.

Mawene Hiroti Try

Isaiah Iongi (WFB, $383k) finally came good for those who have stuck with him, with a 59 against the Dragons setting him up to make some nice money in coming weeks.

Round 5 Fantasy losers

It was a horror week to own a South Sydney HLF, with both Jamie Humphreys and Cody Walker suffering hamstring injuries against the Roosters which resulted in one-point scores.

The loss of Humphreys – who will lose minimal money thanks to entering the round with a break even of 17 – after just a few minutes was particularly jarring in Fantasy circles given his placement in almost 43 percent of all teams.

At the Broncos the rollercoaster ride that has been Jack Gosiewski in 2025 took another violent turn for the worse, with a six-point return from his 52 minutes against the Wests Tigers.

It was a tough one for fellow popular cash cow Jack Cole who failed to meet his break even and finished with 16, while MID Royce Hunt, who still sits in almost 40,000 teams, once again lost money due to scoring just 11 points.
