A gritty victory marked the start of the Wayne Bennett era 2.0 for the Rabbitohs last Saturday, while the Dragons pushed the Bulldogs all the way in an eventual defeat.
Led by a huge effort from stand-in fullback Jye Gray – who put his hand up for 25 carries resulting in 280 metres – the Rabbitohs outlasted the Dolphins, but they now look likely to take on the Dragons without their two-try hero from Round 1, Tyrone Munro, who has a collarbone injury.
On a more positive note, English import Lewis Dodd is available again after serving a suspension, although he hasn't been able to displace Jamie Humphreys, whose impressive first-up showing included a whopping 732 kick metres.
St George Illawarra went toe-to-toe with the Doggies and showed some moments of real promise but ultimately struggled in the face of making 15 handling errors and completing at under 70 percent.
In 41 head-to-head clashes since St George and Illawarra merged, just one win (in South Sydney's favour) separates these two clubs.

After playing five games in his debut season in 2024, Fletcher Myers comes in to replace the suspended Jack Wighton at centre while Bayleigh Bentley-Hape makes his NRL debut on the wing in place of Tyrone Munro (collarbone). Englishman Lewis Dodd has served his suspension and played NSW Cup in the curtain-raiser. Liam Le Blanc is the 18th man.
