The Dolphins piled on a half century of points against the Cowboys in their first outing under new coach Kristian Woolf, while the Eels began the Jason Ryles era with a win in Newcastle.
Woolf, who guided St Helens to three Super League premierships and has overseen the rise of Tonga, took charge of the Dolphins for the first time after a two-year stint under master coach Wayne Bennett.
The Dolphins thrashed the Cowboys 50-8 after leading 34-4 at halftime in an impressive performance, with halves Sean O'Sullivan and Kurt O'Donoghoe steering the side around.
Jake Averillo also spent some time at five-eighth and performed strongly against a Cowboys team bereft of stars.
Earlier, the Eels got the Jason Ryles era underway in style with a 44-18 win against the Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Star playmaker Dylan Brown was heavily involved in his first appearance since a leg injury in last year's "Spoon Bowl" against Wests Tigers that ruled him out of the Pacific Championships with the Kiwis.
Brown combined with boom fullback Isaiah Iongi and halfback Ronald Volkman to set up the win in the first half.
Both the Dolphins and Eels picked up two bonus points on top of their 12 points for the win - one for 5+ tries and 5+ line-breaks.
Parramatta just fell short of a third bonus points for 10+ offloads after finishing with nine.
Fletcher Sharpe looked impressive for the Knights in his new role at five-eighth, while Jackson Hastings came on from the interchange and played as a middle forward.
All Blacks prop Tyrone Thompson was among the debutants for Newcastle after switching codes to play alongside his brother Leo at the Knights this season.
In Thursday night's match, Cronulla Sharks defeated Canberra Raiders 40-10 at GIO Stadium on the back of a powerful forward display and some classy touches from Nicho Hynes and Braydon Trindall. The Sharks picked up two bonus points for 5+ plus tries and 5+ line breaks.
