Just days out from the NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final, Melbourne Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes has been crowned the 2024 Dally M Medallist.
In an incredible finish, Hughes won the Dally M Medal by a solitary point over Sydney Roosters captain James Tedesco, with both players polling maximum votes in their respective Round 27 clashes.
While Tedesco fell just short of capturing his second Dally M Medal, fellow Rooster Olivia Kernick was crowned the Dally M Female Player of the Year.
Kernick, who like Hughes is just days away from a Grand Final performance, earned 22 points, shading Parramatta Eels’ Abbi Church (20 points) and Gold Coast Titans’ Lauren Brown (20 points) for the award honour in a glittering ceremony at the Winx Stand at Royal Randwick Racecourse.
“Season 2024 has been a year worthy of celebration,” NRL CEO Andrew Abdo said.
“The year was full of exceptional performances and captivating storylines. Credit for this amazing success goes to the players, the coaches, the officials and most importantly the fans.
“Tonight we recognised the standout performances of the season and we remembered some amazing moments from the year. Congratulations to all the winners, celebrated for their outstanding contribution to their teams and communities.”
Both NRL Grand Finalists had multiple players in the Dally M Team of the Year. Hughes took out Halfback of the Year honours, Harry Grant was crowned Hooker of the Year, whilst Eliesa Katoa was named Second-Rower of the Year. The Panthers had Brian To’o (Winger of the Year) and Isaah Yeo (Lock of the Year) in the Team of the Year.
Melbourne Storm Coach Craig Bellamy won Coach of the Year.
Bulldogs centre Stephen Crichton was rewarded for a season during which he led the revival of the Bulldogs with Dally M Captain of the Year, while Dolphins rookie Jack Bostock was crowned Rookie of the Year.
Storm winger Xavier Coates’ incredible try in Round 2 against the Warriors won two awards - Dally M Try of the Year and Peter Frilingos Headline Moment.
Ahead of their clash with the Sharks in the Grand Final, Sydney Roosters players earned four positions in the NRLW Dally M Team of the Year – Isabelle Kelly (Centre of the Year), Millie Elliott (Prop of the Year), Keeley Davis (Hooker of the Year) and Olivia Kernick (Second-Rower of the Year).
The Sharks’ Tiana Penitani won two awards – Dally M Centre of the Year and Dally M Captain of the Year.
