A bye for the Roosters – who are packed with Fantasy-relevant players – means plenty of coaches will be reaching for trades ahead of Round 23, but there's a couple of handy returns to ease the pain too.

Ethan Strange looks set to come back into the Canberra lineup and solve an issue at CTR, while there's a few good MID options to consider for those needing to replace the injured Payne Haas.

NRL Fantasy teams analysis: Round 23

Rabbitohs v Storm, Thursday at Accor Stadium

Rabbitohs: Cody Walker returns to the halves and partners Jack Wighton, who is continuing to gain momentum as a top tier CTR prospect thanks to his DPP status. Damien Cook comes off a whopping 95 and is on track to be in 15 percent of teams by the time Round 23 kicks off.

Storm: Jahrome Hughes eased fears he would have a significant drop off with Cameron Munster back in the starting side, with his 54 in a loss to the Dragons meaning he's a hold for another week as an elite HLF. Jack Howarth is delivering for those who picked him up as a cut-price option at CTR, with his score of 36 being far from a disaster if you had him in your 17. If you didn't listen to our warning about Tryan Wishart last week – and the stats show plenty of you didn't! – then he is a must sell ahead of Round 23 if you want to get value out of him, with a break even of 69 that he won't get close to as a bench player.

Titans v Sharks, Friday at Cbus Super Stadium

Titans: The Gold Coast are flying right now, which means there's very little risk of Keano Kini losing his spot at the back anytime soon, even with AJ Brimson again in the mix, with the Kiwi now an out-and-out star at WFB who still sits in under 10 percent of teams. Jayden Campbell's scoring dropped off last week but he is a definite hold, with the Titans' free-flowing attack meaning there should be some 60s for him in the near future. David Fifita (EDG, $791k) remains a very good captaincy option for coaches without Nathan Cleary.

Sharks: A cruel blow for those who had just got on Braydon Trindall, with the HLF now out with a hamstring injury which means a rejigged spine for Cronulla. A move to hooker might be good news for Cameron McInnes owners, with his minutes likely to go up compared to what he was playing as a middle forward. Blayke Brailey will likely have much less to do defensively at halfback, but that could be somewhat offset by a potential uptick in attacking metrics.

Eels v Panthers, Friday at CommBank Stadium

Eels: Even with his minutes reduced to 59 last week – after playing the full 80 in the two games prior – Brendan Hands (HOK/HLF, $445k) scored 52 and at this point he's someone you can have in your scoring 17, even with Joey Lussick on the bench. If you've got Blaize Talagi in your starting side right now then there's no need to race out looking for an upgrade, with the DPP prospect showing enough upside to keep him in the keeper mix, especially if it's at CTR.

Panthers: Nathan Cleary is about to overtake Kayal Iro as the most-owned player in Fantasy and he's pretty much a must have at this point who at $916k is still a bargain considering his output. Rookie Casey Mclean is knocking out good scores and is a good cash down option this week at $365, while CTR-needy teams can also have him in the scoring 17 if need be. The return of Daine Laurie from injury means Isaiah Iongi moves back to the reserves.

Raiders v Sea Eagles, Saturday at GIO Stadium

Raiders: The extremely popular Ethan Strange is named to line up at five-eighth after being a late healthy scratching last week, but the close to 28 percent of teams who still own the rookie CTR will be watching Late Mail nervously as Adam Cook remains in the mix on the bench. Tom Starling's role looks safer than ever now and after he racked up 65 points last week he's shaping as being one of the buys of the year, despite a completely uninspiring first half of the season on the Fantasy front.

Sea Eagles: The return of Reuben Garrick from a head knock is a welcome sight for coaches during a week in which popular WFB and CTR duo James Tedesco and Joey Manu are out on a bye. Lehi Hopoate returns from a facial injury on the wing. Haumole Olakau'atu is now a nice POD option at EDG for the final few rounds, with a season average of 53.

Cowboys v Broncos, Saturday at Queensland Country Bank Stadium

Cowboys: Their most owned Fantasy player, Reuben Cotter, returns from time out under the concussion protocol, while possible POD Heilum Luki is named to play despite suffering a head knock in the win over the Wests Tigers. With their final bye just a fortnight away it's not a time to be picking up any North Queensland players.

Broncos: Payne Haas will be the most traded out player this week after confirmation he suffered a foot injury in Round 22 which is likely to sideline him for multiple weeks. It means there's new life in Xavier Willison as a member of your scoring 17 and he's suddenly a very handy player to have for the final few rounds thanks to his DPP status as both a MID and EDG, even though he misses next week on the bye.

Dragons v Bulldogs, Saturday at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium

Dragons: Jaydn Su'A is enjoying a hot run of form which has included scoring three tries in as many weeks. If you are looking for a POD at the EDG position you could do worse than moving for the Queenslander, who at the time of writing sits in just 1.5 percent of teams.

Bulldogs: It's not quite panic stations yet with Reed Mahoney, but owners should be a little concerned by his three-game run which has seen him fail to register a score over 43. He's a hold for now, but another 30-point showing and it might be a different story ahead of Round 24. There's value in Jacob Preston as a POD for the remainder of the year given he's being relatively ignored by Fantasy coaches in what's been an injury-disrupted season. He's in less than three percent of teams and has a L3 average of 54. Matt Burton ($734k) remains a good option at HLF if you're in need at that position.

Dolphins v Warriors, Sunday at Suncorp Stadium

Dolphins: There's some favourable match-ups for both Herbie Farnworth and Jake Averillo this week against a makeshift Warriors backline. Farnworth is in good form anyway and averages 48.3 over his past three games. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow is proving to be a frustrating player for Fantasy coaches this year, with a lack of consistency meaning he's simply not justifying his price tag, which is down to $586k now following last week's 29.

Warriors: Back-to-back scores of 48 and 45 make Ali Leiataua (WFB/CTR, $401k) a tempting cash down this week. Mitch Barnett's brilliant run of form continued with a 66 in the loss to the Eels and he's a sneaky captaincy option in Round 22 for those without Nathan Cleary.

Knights v Wests Tigers, Sunday at McDonald Jones Stadium

Knights: Kalyn Ponga isn't justifying the wave of movement for him right now, with the WFB sitting in 14 percent of teams despite averaging only 42 over his past three games. Those scores are fine but leave him a long way off being an elite option in the position. Jayden Brailey's role remains safe for another week which means he's a hold in Fantasy, with 42 points a more than acceptable output for a HOK at his price right now.

Wests Tigers: A last-up 51 was further evidence that Reuben Porter is going to be a very handy option for the run home, with his DPP status as both a MID and EDG meaning he can plug some gaps over coming weeks, especially for coaches who have Roosters, Broncos or Cowboys players (who have byes to come) in those positions. Jahream Bula was outstanding last week on his way to 83, but there's nothing to suggest that kind of form will be repeatable for him over the final rounds.
