Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) Chairman Peter V’landys AM today paid tribute to former Kangaroo Bob Banks, who has passed away aged 94.

Banks, who had been the oldest living Kangaroos representative, played 13 Test matches for Australia between 1953 and 1962, and two World Cup matches in 1954. He also played 17 tour matches for Australia between 1953 and 1957.

“Bob spent most of his career playing in regional areas including Cunnamulla, Rockhampton and Cairns, but was still regularly selected for Australia,” Mr V’landys said. “He also played for Queensland on 31 occasions.

“It’s testament to Bob’s ability as a player that he continued to be recognised by State and Test selectors over such a long period of time.

“On behalf of the Commission, I extend our sincerest condolences to Bob’s family, and all those who knew him.”
