National Rugby League collectible coins now at Anaconda

Anaconda and the Royal Australian Mint (the Mint) have joined forces to salute the National Rugby League with a new coin release launching on Thursday 28 March celebrating the 2024 NRL Men’s and Women’s premierships.

NRL fans, coin collectors and Anaconda customers will have the chance to collect two special release $2 coloured coins in their change when they make a cash purchase in store. Adding to the overall collectability of these coins, this may be the last opportunity to secure coloured $2 coins featuring the effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Collectors can also purchase $1 NRL team coins, either in individual Team Coin Cards (RRP $12.50) or in the NRL 2024 17-Coin Collection (folder and coin tube - RRP $45).

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo said he was excited to launch the new coins.

“To have the iconic Provan-Summons and NRLW trophies struck on an Australian coin is an exciting moment for Rugby League,” Abdo said.

“These trophies are the two most treasured prizes for NRL clubs, and now they will be forever struck on a $2 coin as a unique collectible for fans.

“With each NRL club represented on a coin, fans will have an opportunity to own a piece of lasting Rugby League history.”

Anaconda CEO, Chris Lude, said that while Anaconda had a long-standing partnership with the National Rugby League, a project of this scale in collaboration with the Royal Australian Mint was an exciting first.

“As a lifelong NRL fan, I was an avid collector of sporting memorabilia when I was younger. My 10-year-old self would have never let my parents sleep if I didn’t get my hands on these new NRL coins.

“Memorabilia is such an important part of Australian sporting culture, and Anaconda is proud to release these exclusive sporting commemoratives for all Australians to enjoy and hopefully pass down for generations to come,” Chris said.

Assistant Minister for Treasury, Charities and Competition, Dr Andrew Leigh, said the National Rugby League holds an important place in Australia’s heritage and identity.

“The Mint’s iconic storytelling provides a strong opportunity to develop a coin experience that builds on the regional sporting affiliations of Australians and our collective passion for football – the emotional bond between the game, the teams and the fans,” Dr Leigh said.

The NRL $2 coloured coin features the Provan-Summons Trophy, representing the iconic image of Norm Provan and Arthur Summons embracing after the 1963 grand final. The NRLW $2 coloured coin, showcases the NRWL Trophy which embodies the strength and grace of the women’s league.
