Daly Cherry-Evans named 2023 Sports Dad of the Year

The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles may not be playing finals football this season, but captain Daly Cherry-Evans has still finished the year with a win – voted as the Philips Sports Dad of the Year for 2023.

Cherry-Evans has personally matched the $5,000 prize money being donated to his nominated charity Gotcha4Life Foundation, which will now receive $10,000 to support mental fitness programs that engage, educate and empower local communities.

“I’m very proud to win this award,” Cherry-Evans said.

“It’s been an enjoyable process and having the kids ask me most days if I’ve won has made me happy knowing how much they care and think I’m a great dad!

“I’m lucky this Father’s Day as I’ll have my dad down from Queensland which is really nice. We’ll be going out for breakfast with mum and dad and then spreading the love and some time with Vessa’s family later that day.”

For the past 14 years, Australia has voted for its favourite sports superstar dad, with some of the biggest names in the country honoured for their role of doting dad. Previous rugby league winners include Damien Cook (2022), Adam Reynolds (2020), Benji Marshall (2019), Jonathan Thurston (2018 and 2015), Anthony Minichiello (2014) and John Skandalis (2019).
