Tarryn Aiken was the star for the Roosters who proved too strong for the Titans in their 30-8 win in their Round 5 match at Cbus Super Stadium.

The Roosters five-eighth was at her attacking best, setting up two tries and scoring a spectacular one of her own to help orchestrate a comfortable victory for the Tricolour in enemy territory.

The visitors got the first try of the game early after they got the ball off a scrum and produced a simple shift to their left, with Corban Baxter running the distance to score, despite almost being denied by a good chase from Chantay Kiria-Ratu.

The home side hit back soon after they got the ball back from a Roosters error when receiving the kick off, putting them in great position to attack with Sienna Lofipo putting in a kick that was guided to the ground by Niall Williams-Guthrie.

Gold Coast thought they had gone back-to-back and given Williams-Guthrie a first half double with a similar play to their right, but it was denied, before the Roosters turned the screws to close out the half with two more tries, including a solo effort from Aiken that will be a try of the year contender.

Brydie Parker try 52nd minute

In the second half, after a tight opening few exchanges, the Roosters were able to again extend their lead to seal the win, with three second half tries.

However, the Titans were able to give some cheer to their fans, with Destiny Mino-Sinapati crossing for a four-pointer.

The Titans pressed hard at the end of the second half, but the Roosters rallied to show some outstanding defence, especially on their goal line, to produce an impressive victory.

The Tricolours have now won three games in a row, while the Titans have suffered back-to-back losses after going down to the Knights last week.

Match Snapshot

  • Niall Williams-Guthrie was put on report for a high tackle.
  • Young Roosters forward Otesa Pule impressed for the visitors, scoring a second half try and producing a great first-half run to help set up a try to Jayme Fressard.
  • The Roosters have been averaging 29 points per game and were once again able to score plenty of points in the win.
  • Titans lock Georgia Hale has been a defensive powerhouse in the competition and was again amongst her team's best, making a game-high 38 tackles.

Play of the Game

Tarryn Aiken has been in fine form for the Roosters this season and this solo try showed off all her skills. Aiken stepped, evaded defenders, chipped ahead for herself to chase and collect the ball to score just before the deadball line.

What They Said

"In patches, it's so promising, like really good. I think it just shows the potential of the group, but we can't do that for small spurts and then just be defending or on our line and just like letting too much in. Thankfully we've got a few rounds to go and those areas are some easy fixes and tidy ups, but it's just not the style of footy we want to be playing, it’s just the pressure that's been put on us from ourselves." - Titans captain Georgia Hale

Titans: Round 5

"“We know we've got tries in us, the girls work really hard in their attack. We know that's going to come, but it has to come off the back of hard work. The last five minutes there, we defended four sets in a row to keep the Titans out, tat's really special to us. And that’s what we're about, that's who we are as a team It's about us working hard and the girls typified that at the end.” - Roosters coach John Strange
