Recruit watch: Adam Elliott

The NRL market has been in full swing for 2023 with several stars switching clubs ahead of the new season.

NRL.com takes a look at the major transfers and how your club will benefit from a star arrival.

Adam Elliott (Knights)

  • Age: 28
  • Position they’ll fill: Back row/Lock
  • Contracted until: 2025

What Elliott can bring

Newcastle recruit Adam Elliott arrives in the Hunter after a 12-month stint at the Raiders that resurrected his NRL career following his disappointing departure from the Bulldogs.

Elliott's maturity grew under Ricky Stuart in Canberra and the Knights are the main beneficiaries now with the 28-year-old settled off-field and entering the glitter stages of his career.

A passionate competitor, who already has a connection to the club with his fiancé Millie Boyle starring for the NRLW side, Elliott's energy and strong communication skills in the forward pack will be among his best assets for the Knights in 2023.

Why it’ll work

The Knights are in need for another back-rower and with the ability to ball-play and lift those around him, Elliott should fit into the club and town with ease both on and off the field.

His versatility and experience looks set to complement the likes of key forwards the Saifiti brothers, Tyson Frizell and Lachlan Fitzgibbon, given he can also play in the middle of the field.

Elliott's a ball of energy who will add a point of difference to Newcastle's forward pack, which has been criticised in recent years for being too predictable through the middle.

The variety of Elliott's game should help the Knights change up their attack regardless of where the former Raider takes the field, while he can play plenty of minutes and get through a mountain of work if required.

Elliott produced his best season in the nation's capital statistically and despite finishing his time in green with a nasty pelvis injury, he should be fit for the season opener against the Warriors.
