Season shapers: Roosters

Opening month

The Roosters will be part of history when they face NRL new boys the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday, March 5 before a home game against the Warriors in Round 4, a grudge match against the Rabbitohs in Round 3 and a bye in Round 4.

Origin watch

The Roosters are sure to have a high Origin representation so byes before the series opener and the third game will be appreciated. In the middle of the Origin series they face the Knights in Newcastle in Round 16. A clash with the Storm at the SCG three days after Origin III is sure to be a test for both sides as they look to manage some weary troops.

The run home

If the Roosters have put themselves in a position to make the eight with six weeks to go they should certainly be able to convert it into a seventh straight finals appearance. They face only two of this year’s top-eight sides in the run home (Eels, Rabbitohs) although Brisbane at the Gabba in Round 22 could be a danger game. The Dolphins and Wests Tigers are matches Trent Robinson would bank on his team winning.

And another thing...

Winger Daniel Tupou requires just seven tries to pass Anthony Minichiello as the club's greatest ever tryscorer. Tupou crossed 16 times in 2022 to take his career tally to 133 tries in 223 games. Two-time premiership winner Minichiello racked up 139 tries in 302 games between 2000 and 2014.
