With the first round of group play now done and dusted, NRL.com takes a look at the individual standouts from across the World Cup's first eight games.

World Cup Team of the Week: Round 1

1. Joey Manu (New Zealand)

A stunning performance in his second Test match as a fullback. Lebanon struggled to lay a hand on him at times, and his output was massive, with 216 metres and 15 tackle busts. Had a hand in three of his side's six tries, scoring an incredible one and setting up another two.

2. Jake Maizen (Italy)

It was an international debut to remember for the 25-year-old Sunshine Coast Falcons player, with his second-half hat-trick helping the Azzuri to a comfortable victory over Scotland. Ran for 241 metres all up.

This Joey Manu try had everything

3. Ed Chamberlain (Ireland)

Part of a high-functioning Irish backline, Chamberlain terrorised his edge opponents with hard running, while he set up two tries and scored one as well.

4. Anthony Gelling (Cook Islands)

Worked himself to a standstill in the narrow win over Wales, with 303 metres of running and 21 tackles out wide. Went looking for work and more than held his own.

Addo-Carr fires in opening Rugby League World Cup match

5. Josh Addo-Carr (Australia)

Burned Fiji with a trademark 95-metre runaway try - one of two he scored on the day - and impressed with his work ethic. The only Kangaroo to run for over 200 metres against Fiji.

6. Cameron Munster (Australia)

Squeezed plenty into his 62-minute stint, setting up two tries and a pair of line breaks. Popped up all over the place in attack, on his way to player of the match honours.

7. Arthur Mourgue (France)

Alongside veteran French half Tony Gigot, Mourgue guided the side around the park well and came up with some big plays to ensure they pulled clear of Greece on the scoreboard. Scored a try and set another one up, while off the boot he kicked a perfect seven from seven (five conversions and two penalties).

8. Jaimin Jolliffe (Ireland)

Set a solid platform from which his halves, Luke Keary and Joe Keyes, starred. Smashed through five tackles on his way to 201 metres in 51 minutes on the park.

9. Edwin Ipape (Papua New Guinea)

His incredible run to set up Lachlan Lam's try gets more impressive each time you watch it. Ipape spent 2020 on a train and trial contract with Manly, and likely reignited interest from clubs Down Under with his player of the match showing, which included running for 192 metres.

10. Moeaki Fotuaika (Tonga)

A game-changer in his 32 minutes on the field, scoring a crucial try and hurting the PNG middles with his runs, resulting in 134 metres. In a team full of big-name forwards, his contribution was huge for coach Kristian Woolf.

11. Elliott Whitehead (England)

Complimented the up-tempo style the likes of Victor Radley brought to the game and was rewarded with a couple of tries. Will be a key man for England in future matches against teams loaded with NRL talent in the pack.

12. Angus Crichton (Australia)

Scored a nice try and caused issues all night for Fiji with his aggressive runs. Had 179 run metres all up.

13. Victor Radley (England)

One of the leading men for England as they crushed the pre-tournament darlings Samoa 60-6. Clocked up 138 metres and impressed with his ball playing in the middle.

14. Nathan Brown (Italy)

The standout forward in an Italian pack which doesn't have many metre-eating big men. Brown led from the front and clocked up 200 run metres to go with 35 tackles.

15. Jack Welsby (England)

A wonderful Test debut for the 21-year-old, headlined by his three try assists and a try of his own. Welsby looked right at home against some big-name opposition in Samoa and controlled the game well alongside ex-Raiders half George Williams.

Moale won't be stopped

16. Davvy Moale (Cook Islands)

Played a crucial role in his side picking up a valuable victory. The South Sydney big bopper scored a 58th minute try which helped wrestle momentum back, and across his 36 minutes he had 153 run metres.

17. Ben Garcia (France)

A solid captain's knock from the Catalans big man. Garcia, who spent time at Penrith in 2016 but didn't appear at NRL level, got through 37 tackles and carried for a game-high 208 metres.
