The Broncos return home to Suncorp Stadium for their third-ever home game with a bit of soul searching to do as they prepare to host defending premiers Sydney Roosters on Saturday.

Kelvin Wright's side had never lost an NRLW season opener before Sunday's loss to the Knights, which leaves question marks over their premiership credentials for the new campaign.

Brisbane's attacking players showed signs of firing and will be better for the run, but there's no denying they take on a Roosters outfit that has picked up where they left off during their 2021 title-winning season.

The inclusions of Sam Bremner, Destiny Brill and Shaniah Power were evident in their first-up win against the Eels while former Bronco Jayme Fressard grabbed a double on the left edge which was led by new skipper Isabelle Kelly.

The match shapes as the best of the round with the Broncos looking for revenge after the Roosters bundled them out of grand final contention earlier this year during the 2021 season.

Before that, the Broncos had never lost a match against the Tricolours for a 6-1 overall head-to-head lead.

The Rundown

Team news

Broncos: Winger Emily-Claire Bass is out, which triggers a backline reshuffle with Hayley Maddick joining the team at fullback and Jaime Chapman moving from fullback to wing. Kaitlyn Phillips comes into the run-on side, which bumps Sara Sautia back to the interchange.

Roosters: The same 17 who earned a 38-16 victory over the Eels will take the field again in round 2, with no late changes to the team. In her return to the NRLW fullback Samantha Bremner was among the biggest contributors in the win, setting up three tries, making two line breaks and running for 171 metres off 13 carries.

Key match-up

Amy Turner v Isabelle Kelly: A 13-minute blitz that included two tries and an assist should have the Broncos on high alert with Kelly and Turner's battle on the edge one to watch. Defensively one of the best centres in the game, Turner will have her hands full against Kelly, who continues to get better with every match.

Stat attack

The Broncos recorded 508 post-contact metres in their loss against the Knights to rank second for the opening round. However, they conceded 605 in return to show how they were beaten in the middle. The Roosters recorded just 351 post-contact metres against the Eels with Brisbane's forward pack looking to get back on track on Saturday.
