Back it up next week.
It was the simple comment from Brad Arthur that summed up Dylan Brown's own thoughts after the Eels piled on eight tries against a hapless Bulldogs outfit on Saturday led by the star five-eighth.
Brown’s double and his combination with returning halfback Mitchell Moses got the Eels back on track with two games of the regular season remaining before the club’s finals.
Question marks around Parramatta’s consistency have been raised all season long but for now, Brown said finding points was a good start in finding form a fortnight out from the finals.
“The first half was a bit clunky, but I thought everyone played well,” Brown said.
“Everyone plays well when our forwards do well, and Mitch and I seem to do better. It was good to have him back.
“Mitch is a very confident player and one of the best halves in the game. When he’s back everyone is in sync and playing well.”
Parramatta fans and commentators alike will get another strong indication next week whether the side is indeed back in the premiership hunt with an away trip to Brisbane to take on the Broncos.
Brown doubles up
Reeling from their 60-point defeat to the Storm, the Broncos will be out for a repeat performance where they upset Parramatta in round 19 at CommBank Stadium.
“We know we had a poor performance against them that week and we let ourselves down,” Brown said.
“I think it’s just owning moments. That’s what we hate but like at the same time, footy is week-to-week, if you get a loss like that you’ve got the next week.
“It’s in our own hands and we need to do what we did tonight. It doesn’t matter what the other teams do, it’s up to us to make it [to the top four from here].
“We’ve been talking about our attack the whole time but we’re pleased about the six points [in defence].”
Brown believes his performances at the moment has been reflective of the team’s efforts overall – patchy – but he’s taken plenty away from a season that has proven to be a breakout year for him.
“I feel like I’m playing much better footy this year compared to last year,” he said.
“I’ve said that before, it’s just a consistency thing. I’ve been playing good some games but not so much others.
“It’s more a responsibility now. I know I’m classed as an international player and I’ve got to play like one.”
