Final Four: Parramatta Eels

Parramatta have proven they can beat the best teams in 2022, while occasionally showing an inability to get the job done in winnable games against opponents who sit near the bottom of the NRL ladder.

Determined wins over the ladder-leading Panthers and Sea Eagles at fortress Brookvale will have Brad Arthur's side full of confidence for the run home despite halfback Mitchell Moses set to miss several weeks with a broken thumb.

Trailing the fourth-placed Storm only on differential heading into round 21, the Eels will likely need to win their next two against the Sea Eagles and Rabbitohs if they are to have any chance of making the top four.

The final four games

  • Round 22 v Rabbitohs (H)
  • Round 23 v Bulldogs (H)
  • Round 24 v Broncos (A)
  • Round 25 v Storm (H)

Home, sweet home

The Eels will play the Rabbitohs, Bulldogs and Storm at CommBank Stadium where they have lost just twice in eight games this year, with their only other ‘home’ defeat coming in Round 8 when they took a match against the Cowboys to Darwin.

Quick fix: Sea Eagles v Eels

On the road

The Eels have a good road record this year with seven wins from 11 matches as the away team — a feat better only by the Panthers (9-1) and Cowboys (8-2).

Suncorp Stadium, where they will play the Broncos in round 24, has also been a fairly kind venue to them recently with three wins from their last four games there.

Must-watch game

Given their struggles against teams outside the top eight this year, Parramatta's round 23 meeting with the Bulldogs — who beat the Eels 34-4 earlier in 2022 — is an intriguing one. Mick Potter's side are playing an attractive brand of football right now and would love nothing more than to spoil the party for their old rivals.

  • Best case finish: 2nd
  • Worst case finish: 10th
