The meaning behind your team's 2022 ANZAC jersey
Find out the meaning behind all the ANZAC jerseys to be worn in Round 7 of the Telstra Premiership competition.
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs — A camouflage pattern within the blue chevron pays respect to the original army uniform, while the flags on each shoulder represent the ANZAC nations of Australia and New Zealand. The poppy’s that form the centre of the chevron are a symbol of war remembrance and are there to remind us of those who served and were lost, but never forgotten.
South Sydney Rabbitohs — The South Sydney Rabbitohs will be recognising the enormous contribution of the Royal Australian Navy with this year’s ANZAC Round jersey. This jersey, based on the design of the White Ensign flag, is the latest Rabbitohs ANZAC Round jersey which in previous years has paid tribute to the Royal Australian Air Force, those Rabbitohs who fought valiantly for Australia in the first and second World Wars, as well as a red and green camouflage design, the poppy jersey and the 100th ANZAC Anniversary jersey. $5 from every sale of the Rabbitohs 2022 ANZAC Round Royal Australian Navy jersey will go to Keeping Watch, a charitable fund for Royal Australian Navy families.
St. George-Illawarra Dragons — A traditional poppy V design with rosemary on left chest. The jersey also features the Australian and New Zealand flags and the text "Lest We Forget" as well as the iconic ANZAC slouch.
North Queensland Cowboys — The Defence jersey illustrates distinct elements from the story of Townsville’s 1942 bombings, with the city’s iconic Castle Hill featuring on the base of the jersey. The silhouette of soldiers with AA guns can be seen from the lower left corner of the jersey front, with spotlights shining across the chest to four aircrafts flying in a starry night sky. The back of the jersey features the silhouette of the Townsville War Cemetery, the burial site of 222 Second World War veterans.
Melbourne Storm — The jersey shows the significance of the ANZAC day game at Melbourne Storm and shows how the Storm pay respects with the pre-game ceremony under spotlight. Also as part of the 100th anniversary of Kokoda, it also contains the Kokoda memorial (located at 1,000 steps in Victoria).
Penrith Panthers — The commemorative jersey is one of the club's primary initiatives for ANZAC Round - when the game pays tribute to those who have put themselves in harm’s way to protect our way of life. Key elements of the jersey include a traditional poppy and sprig of rosemary above the Panthers club logo, a subtle camouflage design on the black base, and the Australian and New Zealand flags positioned on the left and right sleeves.
Sydney Roosters — The Roosters Wartime jersey represents hardships, on-field success and coincided with the end of the second World War. It’s a reminder of those who served and sacrificed during the War effort.
Cronulla Sharks — The commemorative jersey features images front and back, provided by Sutherland Shire photographer John Veage, taken at the local dawn service at Cronulla Beach on the 100-year anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli. Key elements of the jersey also include a traditional poppy and sprig of rosemary, prominent above the Sharks club logo.
Newcastle Knights — This jersey pays tribute to all Australian and New Zealand personnel who have served for their country, with a poppy design to represent remembrance of those past.
Canberra Raiders — This jersey is a reminder to all of the sacrifices our serving and ex-serving members of the army, air force and navy and their families have made. The coloured stripes on the sleeves of the 2022 Raiders ANZAC jersey represent the services of the Australian Defence Force, the red - the Australian Army, the dark blue – the Royal Australian Navy and the light blue – the Royal Australian Air Force.
Parramatta Eels — This jersey is designed with a camouflage based on the unique shapes formed on the trunks of the ancient marvels, the spotted gum trees near CommBank Stadium. Tinted to match the club colours of the blue and gold army, it also features the red poppy with pride - a symbol of remembrance and hope for a more peaceful future for all.
