Round 9 charges: Fifita suspended at judiciary

Titans superstar David Fifita has been suspended for two matches after unsuccessfully seeking a downgrade on his grade two careless high tackle charge at the judiciary on Tuesday night.

Fifta was charged for his shot on Tiger Adam Doueihi and would have received a one-match ban had he entered an early guilty plea to the charge.

However after attempting to escape suspension with a grade one charge and he will now miss the Magic Round game and also the round 11 clash with the Bulldogs.

Cowboys forward Mitch Dunn was found guilty of his contrary conduct charge at the judiciary on Tuesday and was fined $2100.

Dunn was charged with grade one contrary conduct for his role in a melee at the stroke of half-time in last week's clash with the Broncos. 

He unsuccessfully challenged the charge but is still free to play in Saturday night's Magic Round clash with the Roosters in Brisbane. 

Melbourne hooker Brandon Smith will miss the Magic Round clash with the Dragons after taking an early guilty plea for a shoulder charge.

The Storm announced on Monday that Smith would accept a one-week ban for the shot on Rabbitohs rake Damien Cook rather than head to the judiciary and risk a two-week ban.

Titans lock Tyrone Peachey was charged with dangerous contact and has accepted a $1150 fine while Tiger James Tamou has done likewise for that amount on the same charge.

Dragons pair Paul Vaughan and Josh McGuire both accepted fines with early guilty pleas to grade one dangerous contact charges arising from Sunday's win over the Bulldogs.

Vaughan copped a $1350 fine while McGuire's four prior non-similar offences meant his fine was $2050.

Parramatta five-eighth Dylan Brown accepted a three-week stint on the sidelines while centre Marata Niukore has also submitted an early guilty plea and will be banned for two matches after both were charged by the match review committee following Friday night's win over the Roosters.

Brown was hit with a grade-three dangerous contact charge after sliding his knees into Roosters five-eighth Drew Hutchison, who was hospitalised with suspected fractured ribs and punctured lung.

He risked a four-match suspension if he had challenged the charge at the NRL judiciary.

Niukore pleaded guilty to a grade-two careless high tackle on James Tedesco rather than risking a three-match penalty at the judiciary panel.

The Eels issued a statement on Sunday to say Brown had been in contact with Hutchinson to express his remorse.

"No player likes to see anyone injured. Yesterday I contacted Drew to check up on him and apologise. I also let him know that it was an accident and never my intention for him to get hurt," Brown said.

Parramatta general manager - football Mark O’Neill added: "As a club we never want to see serious injuries occur and we would like to pass on our best wishes to Drew for a swift recovery."

In Townsville, Bronco Matt Lodge was charged with contrary conduct for his role in a melee which broke out on the stroke of half-time while Cowboy Lachlan Burr was charged for a careless high tackle on Herbie Farnworth.

The Cowboys announced on Monday that Burr had taken the early guilty plea and accepted a $1150 fine.
