Broncos forward Amber Hall has received a one-match ban after being charged twice for her controversial 40th-minute tackle on Dragons star Isabelle Kelly.
Hall was handed grade-one charges for contrary conduct and dangerous contact for hair pulling and a "hip drop" style tackle.
She faces a fine of $350-$550 for the contrary conduct charge and a one-week ban for the dangerous contact, entering a plea of no contest despite the option of a reduced punishment of 75 demerit points with an early guilty plea.
St George Illawarra's Shaylee Bent has copped a one-match ban for a crusher tackle over a 46th-minute incident involving Broncos centre Julia Robinson in the same game.
Brisbane teammate Ali Brigginshaw was charged with dangerous contact after a late tackle on Dragons playmaker Maddie Studdon after a kick but has avoided a one-match ban with an early guilty plea.
NRL head of football Graham Annesley on Monday, without talking specifically about Hall's incident, said whether a tackle is viewed a grade-one or grade-two offence is based on the specific attributes of each tackle.
"No two incidents are ever exactly the same. But they [the match review committee] have to look at: how was the initial contact initiated, to what extent does the player turn their body in order to drop the lower part of their body onto the leg," he said.
"They look at whether they consider it to be avoidable or unavoidable.
"They look at the force with which the players lands. So all of those things go to grading. And unless you're actually in the room with the match reviewers – which I'm not, because it is conducted independently – it's not possible to know exactly which of those factors they took into consideration in any particular incident.
"But they have a responsibility to act consistently, to act based on precedent and how they’ve graded in the past, and obviously they're held responsible for that."
