Cowboys hooker Jake Granville.

North Queensland hooker Jake Granville is determined to fight for his future at the club after a two-month axing came to an end last week, and is planning to make the most the new six-again rule.

Granville made a return via the bench in the Cowboys' disappointing 30-10 loss to the Titans on Saturday after he was dropped by Paul Green in round four.

He responded with 11 carries for 127 metres and 30 tackles in a 54-minute stint.

Granville said he and key playmaker Michael Morgan would be better for the run after Morgan's first performance since March drew criticism after seven missed tackles – three of which led to tries.

"It's just good to have Morgs back and he's keen to build on that and get back into it," Granville told NRL.com.

"Personally, I felt good, I've been doing plenty of training and staying fit. I thought the six-again rule quickened up the ruck and there were a few more opportunities to have a run when the team was on the front foot.

"I wasn't taking too many opportunities before I got dropped and I thought on the weekend every chance I get I should look at those chances and make the right decision when to go or where to go."

Match Highlights: Titans v Cowboys

After missing just six games in five years since arriving at the club ahead of their premiership-winning season in 2015, the past eight weeks have been new territory for the experienced rake.

"It was a bit of a shock to get dropped at first but I felt myself too I wasn't playing my best footy," Granville said.

"There's no point kicking stones, it won't get you much further. Your mindset is probably the biggest challenge.

"I've taken it as a reset period. Overall it was good to refresh and take the time to get back to my natural game and how I think I can play."

Granville admitted he was aware his name had been floated in recent weeks as a possible stop-gap hooker solution for Newcastle given their injury woes, however nothing ever eventuated.

The 31-year-old remains determined to see out his current deal that expires at the end of next year.

"I said to my partner I had been here a while and just wanted to give it another good crack and try to get back in the team which I thought I could provide," Granville said.

"I'm keen to try and stick that out and whoever the coach may be, hopefully we have a successful year."

Granville added the team were desperate to end a six-game losing streak when they host the Rabbitohs on Saturday.

The Cowboys haven't posted a win since their spirited performance against the Knights in June.

"I think in previous weeks the boys have taken a step in the right direction but on the weekend we let that slip which is really disappointing," he said.

"We basically spoke about doing the jersey proud and playing with pride and get that hard edge back."
