Broncos captain Alex Glenn is set to go for scans on a suspected medial cruciate ligament injury in the only sour point from the side’s much-needed 26-8 win over the Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium.

Glenn sustained the injury in the 54th minute after a cannonball tackle by Bulldogs centre Reimis Smith. Smith was put on report but Broncos coach Anthony Seibold said he expected his captain to spend time on the sidelines.

One positive for Glenn is that it is not believed to be a season-ending ACL injury at this stage.

"He is not real good," Seibold said.

"It's his MCL (medial cruciate ligament) so he will be in a brace and miss a period of footy. He won't need an operation but he will get a scan tomorrow. They are not concerned about his ACL.

Match Highlights: Broncos v Bulldogs

"Lexi is a our captain and has been in and out of the team a bit this year. We  get one or two players back and we lose a couple. It has been the story of our season.

"I thought Lexi’s defence was really strong so we will miss him. It is on report so the match review committee will have a look at that.

"Lexi knew straight away. He felt the pop."

Seibold will be looking for another back-rower to fill the breach but he will persist with winger turned second-rower Corey Oates who scored a try and had a strong match as Glenn’s back-row partner.

"I enjoyed what he did tonight. I probably poked Oatesy a couple of weeks ago when I dropped him from the wing," Seibold said.

"It was probably a tough decision, but I thought he was real good in the back row. He ran some really strong lines and defensively he was very good."

There was a lot of discussion about Seibold’s decision to allow the players to take more control of the week’s training in the lead-up to the Bulldogs clash. The coach said he wanted the leadership group to take more control and freshen up mentally after an arduous six weeks.

"I have been here for 18 months and I wanted to give the leadership group a voice and take more ownership of the team," Seibold explained.

"We had two big work days this week and they are things I don’t compromise on.

"The start of our week with the recovery day and the end of our week with the last session, they are things that I wanted to hand over to the guys.

"We had active recovery session at Victoria Park Golf Club on Monday and did our team review there which was a mental freshen-up for the players.

"Then yesterday we had our full squad breakfast together. A lot of the guys that aren’t playing for us also aren’t playing Queensland Cup and they are feeling isolated so to get everybody together was a suggestion of the players. My job is to mentor and guide the group.

"Yesterday at the training session the players had a choice of what they wanted to work on. The guys stepped up."

Seibold was high in his praise of the work done by prop Tevita Pangai Jnr in the middle of the park with the Tongan international’s six offloads leading to second-phase play and the opening try to Oates.

Milford kicks early in the count for Isaako

He said the kicking game of five-eighth Anthony Milford was also on song.

Seibold said he enjoyed watching the game from the sideline rather than high up in the stands.

"I haven’t done it since I coached Queensland Cup and I really enjoyed it. I loved being down there because you get a feel for what the players are feeling," Seibold said.

"Sometimes down in the box you feel isolated. It is good to get a feel for how the bench operates. Will I do it every week? I am not sure but it was a real good perspective."
