Roosters coach Trent Robinson says he was delighted by some of the slick attacking raids in his side's 30-6 qualifying final win over the Rabbitohs at the SCG on Friday – but it's not good enough.
The Roosters overturned a somewhat sloppy 16-10 loss against the same opponents last week in the final round of the regular season, jumping out of the blocks to be up 26-0 before taking the foot off the throat to lose the second half 6-4.
"It was good, high quality performance in the first half," Robinson said.
"We executed well, applied pressure and came up with the rewards throughout the whole first half."
The second half started well but then the players took their eyes off the ball and got impatient, rushing to try and score points resulting in a number of errors, according to Robinson.
"There's a continual search for better; my job along with our staff is to provide improvement and to get more out of our players.
"The fans' job is to enjoy what they see so my job isn't to sit and enjoy what I see, it's to push them more and more and do it positively."
While he did enjoy the execution on what were some stunning first-half tries, Robinson wasn't satisfied.
Robinson: I thought we could have had 50-nil if we executed better
"How do we get better? I really enjoyed [the performance] but we're not done, 30-6, I'm really happy then you go 'hang on I thought we could have had 50-0 there, why didn't we have 50-0?
"I know that sounds a bit greedy but I think that's the truth, why didn't we get it? That's the natural part of coaching
"I don't think I'm alone in thinking that could have been the scoreline if we had executed better in the second half. If we executed that short side better, couple of line breaks [from Souths] shouldn't have been there, as a coach you say 'come on let's fix that'."
Robinson was optimistic Boyd Cordner (quad strain) and Daniel Tupou (groin) would be good to go after the week off despite limping off mid-game while Jake Friend (broken arm) has been doing full contact training and should be ready to return as well.
"[Cordner] did it five minutes before I got him off so it wasn't a 'pop' where he couldn't run, he could've kept going but it was also serious enough to take him off the field," Robinson said.
"[Tupou] was more groin, he did it at the start of the week, he came out after half time cooling down and didn't have the power he had in the first half [and] the score allowed us to get him off."
Waerea-Hargreaves trip on Roberts
Robinson was also asked about a potential tripping charge for prop Jared Waerea-Hargraeves, who already had to beat a dangerous tackle charge at the judiciary to line up for this game and will be guaranteed to face a ban with any charge due to his record.
"I just saw the trial by media already happening, I saw somebody looking at a phone and Channel Nine playing it over and over and over again, that was as much as I've seen it," Robinson said.
"I don't think my opinion is going to be – the speed of play and all of that, my opinion is not going to count if they've already started doing all that."
