Doueihi takes bell-ringing hit from Taufua in his stride

Adam Doueihi remembers the cement wall-like hit of Manly winger Jorge Taufua.

The 24th-minute bell-ringer in the 21-20 South Sydney win at ANZ Stadium on Saturday didn't have an effect Doueihi's enjoyment – or memory – of the game.

It was his first win for the Rabbitohs this year. Then again, it was only his fourth game back from an anterior cruciate ligament operation.

"He got me a good one Jorge, but we ended up scoring in that same set [via Dean Britt] so it all ended up pretty well," the 20-year-old said.

Doueihi played the full 80 minutes and he's relishing every one of them after missing so much football in 2019, including South Sydney's 10 wins from the first 11 rounds.

After returning in round 12 he was a part of three straight losses to the Eels, Knights and Panthers.

"It's a big relief … to win by a point or 14 points we were going to be happy," he said.

"We'll look at the second half and see where we can improve before moving on to the Cowboys next weekend."

The Rabbitohs enjoyed an 18-6 lead at half-time off the back of a perfect completion rate – 19 from 19 sets – but scores were locked up at 20-20 with eight minutes to play.

"We seemed to do everything to try to lose the game in the second half. We did turn it around and find the win which is good for us. That hasn't been happening lately.

"Manly are the kings of offloads with Addin Fonua-Blake, Marty Taupau, Curtis Sironen and Jake Trbojevic. They play that chaos-type of football where they just throw it around a bit."

The Sea Eagles' off-load count bettered their opponents 20-6.

Doueihi has been equally impressive. He's played three positions in his four games – centre, halfback and now fullback for the injured Alex Johnston, who is out with knee damage.

"I don't know," was his answer on how long he might be wearing the No.1 jersey.

"Wayne [Bennett] said to me we'll just take it week by week. So let's see where I am next week.

"I'm happy to be in the side wherever the team needs me to fit. I felt comfortable in the No.1 so we'll see what happens.

"We're still missing the Burgess boys and a few others from Origin but I thought players like Jaydn Su'A – in his first game for us [from Broncos] – and Dean Britt coming into the starting side were really strong for us, fantastic for us."
