Jai Arrow doesn't mind rolling up his sleeves, digging deep and getting on the front foot. That sounds like a list of footy clichés, but in this case it has nothing to do with rugby league.
Away from the footy field and in his spare time, Arrow is renovating his house. This Titans and Maroons enforcer doesn't mind doing the gritty work – from running hard on the field to ripping out the kitchen sink.
He's currently finishing his plumbing trade, but in the meantime he's upgrading his house – and we're not talking small projects, either.
"Footy and plumbing are both hands-on jobs, so I'm a bit of a hands-on sort of guy," Arrow tells Big League. "I've got a lot of renovations going on at home. I'm doing that with my partner. It's pretty full-on. I've been ripping out the kitchen, putting up a fence and getting a double carport-garage.
"Then I'll start on the bathroom – that's going to be a big job too. There's going to be a bit of landscaping to do as well."
The lock was picked at starting prop in just his fourth Origin game next Wednesday and Maroons legend Billy Moore has already called on Arrow to be a future leader of the state.
"I don't think it's too early to think he will be a leader for Queensland," Moore says
"Not now, but in two or three years' time when he's learned from all the hard-heads and experienced more of what Origin throws at you, someone like him will definitely be in the leadership group."
Arrow was overwhelmed by Moore's comments and says leading the Maroons is something he'd love to do in the coming years.
"To have one of the Queensland greats saying I could be a leader is pretty special," Arrow says.
"Playing in the Queensland side is something I never thought I'd ever be able to do. To be a leader is definitely something I'd be up for but I guess that's up to Kevvie Walters."
