Newcastle coach Nathan Brown said he would weigh up Kalyn Ponga's future in the halves in the wake of the Knights losing a second-straight game.
Handling errors and a whopping 54 missed tackles culminated in a 17-10 loss to the Canberra Raiders 17-10 at GIO Stadium.
Despite the pre-match injury to fullback Connor Watson, Brown stuck with his early season experiment of moving one of the best young fullbacks in the game into the front line.
However, with the Knights averaging 12.6 points a game so far this year compared to 17.25 last year, Brown said he's not too proud to admit he might have made the wrong call.
"I was always going to give it five weeks, that was the plan," Brown said.

"Our offence is not going as smooth as we'd like, and we've got a long turnaround so we'll have a look at why we aren't getting the best out of what we're working with.
"I wouldn't sit here now and say we're going to do one or the other but I'll have a conversation with Kalyn.
"I'm not one of these coaches who's stubborn enough not to put my hand up and say 'maybe it's not a good idea'."
Ponga was moved to fullback with around 20 minutes remaining against the Raiders, as the Knights sought to get back onto level terms.
It wasn't to be as Canberra showed a resolve they missed for much of last year.
"We nearly did it [moved Ponga to fullback] at half-time and that wasn't a reflection of what Kurt [Mann] was doing," Brown said.

"There's no doubt one of Kalyn's best attributes is broken field running and playing fullback is another way he can get a bit of the football.
"When we are defending and kicking well we seem to create more backfield running opportunities and when KP went back there he didn't get as many as we might have hoped.
"We certainly need to have a look at why aren’t going as well on offence as we were last year because other parts of the game are probably doing a bit better."
On top of the missed tackles, the Knights also gave up five line-breaks and had 84 less post-contact metres.
Brown said his side will also analyse the number of tries they have allowed from kicks.
"Canberra probably had four or five genuine try-scoring opportunities from kicks and we got beat from a kick last week, so that's something we can tidy up," he said.
