The NRL, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs today welcomed the release of the Sydney Olympic Park Business Association’s five-point-plan to reignite the precinct.
“ANZ Stadium is more than just another Stadium - it’s home to the biggest, most entertaining rugby league events held in Sydney every single year and is the focal point of an entire precinct that needs reinvigorating,” Mr Greenberg said.
“As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Sydney Olympic Park, it’s important to look at how we reignite the precinct.
“I applaud the Sydney Olympic Park Business Association and Western Sydney Business Chamber for working with stakeholders to produce this comprehensive plan.
“The NRL endorses the plan and calls on the Government and Opposition to commit to its delivery.
“Our fans, members and the broader community want to see the refurbishment of ANZ Stadium delivered by 2021, in line with the NRL’s agreement with the NSW Government.
“However, this can’t be done in isolation and needs to be part of the broader plan for Sydney Olympic Park, which includes better transport connectivity via light rail, the Sydney Metro West and Westconnex; health and education infrastructure to support the precinct’s growing population; and plans to attract the world’s best sports and entertainment events to drive the region’s economy.
“Sydney Olympic Park shouldn’t be a political football – it is a key ingredient to the success of Western Sydney’s growing economy.
“The comprehensive five-point-plan needs to be adopted by all sides of politics,” Mr Greenberg said.
South Sydney Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly said that fans want to see ANZ Stadium upgraded and improved, alongside improved transport connectivity and more entertainment and dining options in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct.
“This is a comprehensive plan that needs to be delivered – not just for rugby league fans, but for all event goers and the growing residential and working population of Sydney Olympic Park,” Mr Solly said.
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs CEO Andrew Hill said he wanted the club’s members and fans to have a world class sporting experience and delivery of this plan will make that dream a reality.
“When someone makes a decision to go to a game they deserve to be part of something special,” Mr Hill said.
“That includes a variety of transport to get to and from Sydney Olympic Park, great eating options and a superb in-stadium experience.”
