Momirovski relishing change from East to West

He'll be forever remembered as the player who helped the Roosters reach the 2018 NRL grand final but Paul Momirovski is hoping a career change 30 minutes west will provide an easier pathway to a permanent spot in the Telstra Premiership.

The 22-year-old replaced a suspended Latrell Mitchell in the preliminary final against South Sydney last season, scoring the match-winning try for the Tricolours in his final game at the club before moving to the Wests Tigers on a two-year deal.

Life at Concord is a whole new experience for the former South Sydney junior, who has left the east to sweat it out in Sydney's inner West.

"I spent five years there and learnt a lot but here I am now at the Wests Tigers trying to better myself as a person and a player," Momirovski told NRL.com.

"I played in the Souths juniors before moving over to the Roosters. It was a big circle that came around scoring that try against them and it was a good way to finish my Roosters career."

Momirovski will link up with Michael Maguire and it won't be for the first time after he kick-started his junior career at the Rabbitohs while Maguire was coach of the NRL squad.

He was one of five South Sydney juniors who transferred to the Roosters as teenagers.

"There were a few of us that came through the Souths system at the time but left and I don't think it sat well with them," Momirovski said.

"Guys like Nat Butcher, Grant Garvey and Reimis Smith – sometimes you have to just make a decision for yourself at that age.

"I was only 16 and Madge was the coach at Souths. I negotiated this deal at the Tigers with Ivan Cleary but when Madge was named coach I was just as comfortable with that."

Momirovski has impressed the coaching staff at his new club and is eyeing the left centre spot.

He'll compete with the likes of Mahe Fonua and Michael Chee-Kam for the role in the club's trial against the Warriors on March 2, while NRL.com reported Rabbitohs winger Robert Jennings could link with the club before the season kicks off.

"I've made the right choice, the players are awesome and I've learnt a lot," Momirovski said.

"At a time like this, everyone is getting to know each other. There's a few of us like myself, Ryan Matterson and Zane Musgrove still settling in.

"As a club with a new coach we're all on the same page working towards one goal and adjusting to new systems."
