Jennings' Rabbitohs future remains uncertain

South Sydney's leading try-scorer Robert Jennings will continue to train with the squad despite not being contracted to the club next season.

Jennings is in a contract stalemate at Redfern with his management and the club yet to strike up a new deal.

The Rabbitohs have two spots left to fill on their compulsory top 30 list by June 30 next year.

Club stalwart John Sutton re-signed last month after Zane Musgrove's move to the Wests Tigers providing the club short-term relief for the former captain's extension.

But Jennings's next career step remains at a crossroad and the Minchinbury junior conceded the situation had become stressful.

"It's not sorted, I've left it to my manager because it puts a lot of stress on me," Jennings told NRL.com.

"My focus is getting my body right for 2019 wherever I'm at. I'm training with Souths and hoping for some good news either way.

"It doesn't bother me where I play. It would be good to stay or be close to home but wherever is the best opportunity for me.

"Whatever happens I'll move forward from there."

Jennings was among Brad Fittler's 23-man Emerging Blues squad that assembled at NSW's Centre of Excellence for a one-day camp.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a breakout season in 2018 with 19 tries and a career-high 132-metre average per game.

Jennings revealed he's moved back to Sydney's west with his partner Samantha Witham, as the pair are expecting their first child next year.

He'll continue to travel into Redfern unless instructed otherwise. Newly appointed South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett has remained supportive of the situation.

"It was the first time meeting him, a coach of his calibre and what he's achieved it was nerve racking," Jennings said of Bennett.

"But he's been good, he's fit in comfortably and got stuck into it. He's a man of not many words. He trusts us to rip in, train hard and do the job he wants.

"It would be good for me to be coached by someone of his experience. I'd have to start fresh again, I'm confident he'd bring the best out in me and the rest of the players."
