The State of Origin fate of injured stars Latrell Mitchell, Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Dylan Napa was mixed following an incident-packed match between the Sydney Roosters and Penrith Panthers at Allianz Stadium on Friday night.
Campbell-Gillard received the results of scans on Saturday morning which confirmed the Panthers prop had suffered a broken jaw.
The 24-year-old was diagnosed with an undisplaced fracture of the mandible and will be sidelined for six to seven weeks after undergoing surgery on Sunday.
Campbell-Gillard collided with Roosters forward Jared Waerea-Hargreaves from a kick restart in the first half and left the field in the 21st minute for a head injury assessment, later confirmed as a jaw injury.
Roosters duo Mitchell and Napa received good news about the prospects for Origin II after undergoing extensive medical assessments on Saturday.
Mitchell, who turned 21 on Saturday, injured his neck early in the second half of Friday's 32-6 win over Penrith and played no further part in the match.
The good news is that the injury is not serious. Mitchell has been diagnosed with a ligament strain and will be crossing his fingers he is passed fit for the second State of Origin clash on June 24 in Sydney.
Mitchell is expected to be an automatic selection when the NSW team is named on Sunday night and will be monitored by Blues medical staff during the week-long training camp.
Napa also received positive feedback about the ankle injury that forced him to limp from the field in the first half against the Panthers, with Roosters medical staff confirming he had suffered minor ligament damage.
The diagnosis would have been a big relief for Queensland coach Kevin Walters, who is sure to want Napa in his side to face the Blues in game two after NSW prevailed 22-12 in game one of the annual best of three series.
In more good news for the Roosters, experienced utility back Blake Ferguson has been cleared of serious injury after leaving the field late in Friday's game.
Mitchell posted comments to his fans on social media late on Friday night.
"Hey everyone, just would like to say I'm feeling the love, gratefully nothing is serious,'' he wrote.
''Couple days with a stiff neck but happy that's all it will be!!"
Match Highlights: Roosters v Panthers - Round 15, 2018
Mitchell was taken from the field in the 50th minute after landing awkwardly from a Nathan Cleary tackle.
Play was stopped for close to 10 minutes as Mitchell was given treatment before he was later seen sitting up in the dressing sheds, which was a far more positive sign.
Speaking after the match, Roosters coach Trent Robinson was optimistic regarding the 20-year-old.
Roosters and NSW captain Boyd Cordner said everyone took a sharp breath when Mitchell was first injured.
"It's not good at all when you see someone go down like that. Straight away I was close to him,'' Cordner said.
"He was saying it was his neck. You don't want to see that in the game, especially with one of your teammates but he's in good hands with our medical staff. From all reports he's doing OK which is good, it's a positive sign."
With Campbell-Gillard, who made his debut in the Blues' Origin I win at the MCG, ruled out of Origin II next Sunday at ANZ Stadium, Titans prop Ryan James - as long he gets through Saturday's match against the Bulldogs at Belmore Oval - is favoured to get a call-up.
NSW isn't the only state having last-minute injury troubles.
Queensland have two serious concerns in Napa [ankle] and Cowboys utility Michael Morgan [biceps].
"We'll have to wait and see how he is tomorrow,"
"The next couple of days will be really important given that Origin is only nine days away. I haven't got a lot of time for injuries like this to heal," Walters told Fox Sports.
"He'll obviously have scans but it doesn't look too good."
After the match, Roosters coach Trent Robinson was asked if Napa would be right to face the Blues at ANZ Stadium on June 24.
As for Morgan's injury, Walters said it would bring Newcastle fullback Kalyn Ponga into consideration.
"We've got some options and Kalyn Ponga is one guy everyone has been talking about," Walter said.
"He is a similar style of player to Morgo in terms of covering a few positions."
