Winger Anthony Don has capped a superb individual season by taking out the Paul Broughton Medal as the Titans' best player of 2017 at the club's annual awards night on the Gold Coast on Wednesday night.
An unsung hero of the Titans line-up, Don was the club's leading try-scorer for the second straight year, scoring 12 tries in 20 appearances and becomes the first winger and just the second back behind Preston Campbell to win the award in its 11-year history.
The Grafton junior polled 49 votes, which was compiled on a 3-2-1 basis after each match, from the three-man coaching staff and playing group. Don finished two points clear of hooker Nathan Peats who also had a strong season.
A model of consistency with the penchant for some spectacular try-scoring plays, Don's rise in the NRL ranks received its first representative nod this year when the 29-year-old was selected to play for Country Origin in the final hosting of the concept.
Peats also elevated his status with selection for New South Wales in each of the three Origin matches this season and received the Coaches' Award while centre Konrad Hurrell showed he truly he is a man of the people by claiming both the Members' Most Valuable Player award and 'The Preston', an award recognising work done within the community over the course of the year.
