Another game, another record for Cameron Smith.
In a year that's seen him notch the most wins in premiership history and break through the 2,000 point barrier, the Storm skipper took it one step further on Sunday, surpassing Jason Taylor as the most prolific goal-kicker the game has ever seen.
Smith's fifth conversion against the Dragons took his career tally to 943 goals from 1,289 attempts to move him clear of some of the game's great kickers including Taylor, Andrew Johns, Hazem el Masri and Michael Cronin.
The 33-year-old joked that he thought he'd never break the record following a poor run with the boot, but his left foot didn't let him down in Wollongong as the Storm extended their lead atop the ladder with a 34-22 win over the Dragons.
"It's nice to have that record," the Storm skipper said after the game.
"I wasn't aware I was that close – I thought I was there or thereabouts.
"I didn't think it was going to come after the past couple of weeks' efforts because I was hitting them everywhere except through the two posts!
"That's a nice achievement to have. To go past a guy like Jason Taylor...I was just a kid watching him play for Wests and then for North Sydney. The way he used to kick a footy at the goals, you'd sit there in amazement thinking 'how can anyone be this good at kicking goals?'
"I've been very lucky to play with some wonderful players who have scored a lot of points and have given me the opportunity to have shots at goal.
"I've probably had more attempts through my career than what JT had, but it's nice to get there and have that record."
Storm coach Craig Bellamy was in awe of his on-field general after the game and tipped him to break even more records before his career eventually comes to an end.
"I know he's a humble guy with all the records he keeps breaking – and I don't want to talk him up too much – but he just keeps breaking records and he's an amazing player," Bellamy said.
"We just realise how fortunate we are to have had him for so long. Hopefully we'll have him for a bit longer and he'll break a few more records. I don't know what else he can break, but I'm sure he will."
