After footing it with the Canberra Raiders and Melbourne Storm in eventual defeats over the past fortnight, the Warriors were relieved to leave the field in Auckland feeling like the result reflected their effort in Round 9.
While their 14 errors and reliance on a last-minute penalty goal to secure the 14-13 win will show it was far from a polished performance, the Warriors took confidence from being able to get the job done in gritty fashion against the Roosters in Auckland.
"We just found a way to stay in there and with a couple of minutes to go things went our way," coach Stephen Kearney said.
"I was really pleased with the effort and the resilience to be able to do that.
"Tonight we found a way to win with our defence. I think there were a number of times they [the Roosters] had line breaks and Roger [Tuivasa-Sheck] made a tackle on the try-line, and over in the right corner a number of times the ball got to Daniel [Tupou] or Shaun [Kenny-Dowall] but we had numbers there.
"That sort of stuff is really good stuff to have in a football team.
"You look at the nature of the games particularly in the last couple of weeks [and the difference was] we kept ourselves in the contest by defending our try-line."
For captain Tuivasa-Sheck it was a pleasing result after his side suffered final-quarter collapses to lose to the Raiders (20-8) and Storm (20-14) in their last two matches.
"We have been building really well, performing really well and just haven't been getting the rewards at the end of the day," Tuivasa-Sheck said.
"Today is a good feeling to get the two points for the team and show we are [going the right way].
"It was a pleasing win for the team… a bit of relief was there.
"We found ourselves in the right spot at back end and it was just a good performance from the boys to turn it around."
Meanwhile the Warriors look set to be well represented this Friday night when the Kiwis take on the Kangaroos at GIO Stadium in Canberra, with Kieran Foran, Shaun Johnson, David Fusitu'a, Issac Luke, Simon Mannering and Tuivasa-Sheck all earning selection in the New Zealand squad.
