Newcastle end their win drought at last, horror injury toll for Titans, a try of the year contender and a special moment for a couple of cousins.
Knights break drought
It's taken 335 days, but the embattled Knights finally broke their drought in front of 12,869 fans in Newcastle to enjoy their first victory since Round 6, 2016. Coach Nathan Brown and skipper Trent Hodkinson joked post-game that only the young juniors knew the team song and the rest had to read the words off paper.
Injuries a cruel blow for Titans
Three serious injuries to Jarryd Hayne, Anthony Don and Karl Lawton added salt to the wounds for the Titans, with coach Neil Henry holding concerns the trio will not be fit to play next week against the Eels, and quite possibly even longer, with scans to confirm the full extent of injuries in the coming days.
Knights slip away again before half-time
Similar to last weekend against the Warriors, the Knights shot out to a handy lead before letting their opponents back into the contest with three straight tries between the 25th and 40th minutes to go into the half-time break behind. It's something the Knights were guilty of last year and will need to work on in the coming weeks.
Titans raise try of the year bar early
Despite being on the wrong end of the result, the Titans produced a try of the year contender with a second-half effort finished by Englishmen Joe Greenwood. The Titans managed to keep the ball alive through over fifteen sets of hands before half Ash Taylor kicked wide for Chris McQueen, who then found Greenwood in support to dive over.
Special moment between cousins
NRL debutant Tyronne Roberts-Davis crossed for the first try of his Telstra Premiership career late in the first half, and had older cousin Tyrone Roberts to thank for the four-pointer.
Roberts, who was playing fullback at the time for the injured Hayne, provided the cut-out pass for the 19-year-old to dive over in the corner on the Eastern side of the stadium before being flocked by Titans teammates.
