A Dane Gagai hat-trick helped Queensland seal the State of Origin series for 2016, though New South Wales fans were left wondering what may have been after Michael Jennings' failed try-scoring opportunity. Benji Marshall turned back the clock for the Dragons in Newcastle while James Maloney proved the difference for the Sharks against the Warriors. Melbourne quelled a Wests Tigers comeback while North Queensland did similar against the Sea Eagles. Brett Morris returned to the NRL for the first time this season and celebrated accordingly with a hat-trick in the Bulldogs’ huge win over Brisbane.
