Cowboys winger Kyle Feldt had a mixed night against the Broncos in Round 11.

Cowboys star Johnathan Thurston has opened the door for Brisbane to test the temperament of winger Kyle Feldt in Friday's semi-final showdown at 1300SMILES Stadium.

Feldt has twice lost his cool on the field in as many months, costing his side dearly in both instances.

A self-confessed "brain fart" of a shoulder charge in Round 18 was met with a three-week suspension, followed by last week's frustration-induced penalty in the 75th minute of their qualifying final loss to Melbourne, which turned a four-point Storm lead into six.

Feldt has his share of making up to do, and Thurston acknowledges it is up to his talented outside back to keep his nose clean.

"It's rugby league, it's semi-finals footy, you've got to leave it all out there," he said when asked about the morality of baiting Feldt into a disciplinary penalty.

"Once you cross that white line everything goes out the window and you're there to win.

"That could be a tactic of [Brisbane's]. If they've been watching our games they probably would have noticed [Feldt's misdemeanours].

"Wayne is obviously a very smart coach and he's got good people around him that would notice that. So if they want to try that, they can try that.

"We still need [Feldt] to play with that energy. He only makes two, three or four tackles a game so when he makes those tackles we need him to make sure he's doing a good job."

In Feldt and Jason Taumalolo, the Cowboys have two players in hot water who need bounce-back games this week.

Taumalolo's infamous egg-throwing incident the night before the team was due to fly to Melbourne appeared to impact the game's most damaging forward, who last week registered single-digit hit-ups for the first time this season, and was kept under 100 metres for just the third time in 2016.

But fellow star forward James Tamou says the reigning Dally M Lock of the Year is primed for a big one against a Broncos team he has demolished in recent games.

"He got up in front of [the group] and said he thought that he let us down, but [apart from that incident] I don't think he's let us down the whole year," Tamou said.

"He's been unreal for us and I think in his mind he knows he needs to lift for everyone, but he's been one of our best players and I think his head's screwed on right for this game."
