insisting the Broncos are still a premiership threat if they finish in either fifth or sixth place on the NRL ladder.
The Broncos are sitting in the top four for the first time since the completion of Round 15 after their Thursday night win over the Sydney Roosters at Suncorp Stadium.
However, this joy may be short-lived.
If North Queensland defeat the Gold Coast on Saturday night then Wayne Bennett's men will slip down one spot on the ladder.
A less likely scenario may also inflict pain on Brisbane, with Canterbury-Bankstown needing to beat Souths Sydney by 45 points or more on Friday night to leapfrog Brisbane on the ladder.
But if either of these scenarios do take place, the Broncos will not be worried.
The club's 1993 side won the premiership from fifth position on the ladder and this is all the proof Bennett needs to believe that it can be done.
"We've done a lot of things right so it's good to have momentum heading into the finals," Bennett said.
"Top four isn't life or death. We've won premierships here from outside the top four. The important part is to be playing well.
"They came here to play. The Roosters have beaten some quality teams throughout the year.
"They had a disastrous start to the season that they haven't been able to recover from.
"In saying that, they've played with a lot pride towards the end of the season."
If Brisbane do finish outside the top four they'll want to play a lot better than they did against the Roosters.
The Broncos were dreadful in the first half of Thursday's match, completing at 59 per cent and only managing to have 37 per cent of possession heading into half-time.
It's a miracle they went into half-time trailing by only two points after producing their worst half of football in over a month.
But as the good sides do, they turned it around in the second half and kept the Roosters to nil in the second 40 minutes.
Captain Corey Parker didn't condemn his side's performance, instead praising the way the players responded after half-time.
"We didn't do ourselves any favours in the first half. We had very low ball control, but we hung in there pretty well with our defence," Parker said.
"We managed to score a couple of tries late in that first half and then at half-time we readdressed what we needed to do as a team.
"I thought the response to that was very good because we kept them scoreless in the second half. We were able to build some pressure and we got the job done."
