If the Roosters want to launch a mid-season assault similar to the 12-game winning streak that catapulted them to the top of the 2015 NRL Telstra Premiership ladder they must rectify an error count that has ground their season to a shuddering halt.
The Roosters have been the worst offenders in the NRL since the start of 2014 with 686 errors, and are second behind only the Raiders (who have played an extra game) with 123 mistakes this season.
The famed Bondi wall and an ability to score points in bursts have glossed over the high error counts over the last few years, but given their poor start to 2016, it's become a real area of concern for Trent Robinson's' men.
Experienced Roosters utility Mitchell Aubusson said it was obvious which areas they needed to improve ahead of this weekend's showdown with the Tigers.
"I think the biggest thing for us is reducing our errors and working on our completion rates," Aubusson told NRL.com.
"If we can get that right then we can get back to challenging some of those top sides.
"You can't really put it down to anything. If it was something that we knew we were doing wrong than we'd be able to fix it.
"We just need to keep doing the hard work and make sure that under pressure we're catching all those passes and making sure those passes are on the mark."
While errors have hurt them at various stages of 2016, dropped balls and forward passes aren't the only reasons the Roosters have struggled to find the form that saw them win the last three minor premierships.
Injuries and suspensions to key personnel have taken their toll on the Tricolours this year but Aubusson said their season was far from over.
"We're not happy with where we are at the moment and it's about taking that challenge," the 2013 premiership-winner said.
"There are plenty of guys here that will fight and are hungry to win and put this club back where it should be. The only way we can do that is through hard work. I'm sure in the next few weeks you're going to see the best Roosters you've seen all year.
"For us the most important game is obviously this weekend. We need to build that confidence and play really well. As we build that confidence, hopefully we can get some wins and only then can we start to think about the back end."
