Burgess was injured in the 52nd minute of South Sydney's 8-6 loss to the Dragons at the SCG, spending several minutes lying on the ground before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital.

The England international took to Twitter in the early hours of Monday morning to provide an update on his condition.

Following the match on Sunday, Souths coach Michael Maguire said the early news on Sam Burgess was "pretty positive"

"At the moment he's gone for scans. The doctor was pretty positive, which is good news," Maguire told media after the game.

"He obviously had a bit of tingling through one arm.

"They go through all the processes when you have an incident like that, but from what I've been told they were pretty positive when they put him in the ambulance so we'll wait and see about the scans.

"Sammy was in a pretty good headspace from what I was told, so I'm looking forward to having a chat with him and seeing where he's at."

Maguire said the fact Burgess could move his limbs after the incident was encouraging.

"He had all movement [in his arms and legs] so they're the first signs that doctors - I'm no doctor but when you have an incident like that I can imagine as a doctor you're looking for those movements.

"He was in a bit of pain - he sort of got compressed there quite heavily.

"But as I've been told he's in a pretty good frame of mind, so we'll have to wait and see."
