ARLC Chairman John Grant said today his agreement to take on additional duties while a new CEO is appointed will not affect his position as Chairman of the Commission.
He said he was taking on the additional duties following an approach to him from the Commission's Nominations Committee, acting on behalf of the full Commission.
Nominations Committee Chair, Catherine Harris AO PSM, confirmed that the Commission's constitution allows directors to take on additional duties, as delegated by the Board, as long as they do not give rise to a conflict of interest.
"The Nominations Committee considered the Constitutional provisions and the options available to the Commission for the period until a new CEO was appointed and determined that, rather than disrupting the operations of the organisation by appointing an interim CEO from the executive team, the Chairman be asked to take on additional duties to those he has as Chair of the Commission in this period," Mrs Harris said.
"When approached, John accepted our rationale and agreed to do so and we are grateful for that.
"The Nominations Committee made a recommendation to this effect to the full Commission which was accepted."
Mr Grant confirmed that he remains Chairman and Dave Smith remains CEO until November 30.
"There will be no interim CEO but, after that date, I will take on some additional duties.
"My role will continue to be Chairman," he said.
