Newcastle's Adam Clydsdale in action against North Queensland.

Adam Clydsdale will depart the Newcastle Knights after being released from the final year of his contract to sign with the Canberra Raiders for 2016.

The first player let go by incoming Knights coach Nathan Brown, Clydsdale will head to the nation's capital to contend with Josh Hodgson and Kurt Baptiste for the club's main hooker role.

"Our current attitude towards recruitment is bringing in good players and creating depth in important positions," Raiders coach Ricky Stuart said. "Adam is a very talented young footballer and he’ll fit in with what we’re building here at the club."
