Dominique Peyroux will travel approximately 18,000kms around the world later this year just for the chance to come back and play rugby league in the NRL again one day.
The opportunity to play regular first team football was the main reason behind Peyroux taking up a two-year contract with St Helens in the Super League, after three seasons with the Warriors where he has mostly played for the club's NSW Cup side.
"I am hoping to re-establish myself, which is pretty much the reason I am going over, and hopefully I can get some more game time too," Peyroux told NRL.com.
"Obviously guys usually go over just before retirement, but hopefully I can re-establish myself over there and hopefully come back into the NRL.
"It's a little bit sooner than I had hoped, but it's my exposure in the top grade that has played a role in my future.
"I haven’t played as much footy as I would have hoped [at the Warriors], but St Helens is a good club and for them to be keen on me is pretty big, so I took the opportunity to go over."
Reflecting on his time in Auckland, Peyroux, who has represented both the Cook Islands and Samoa, said an abundance of talent in his positions of choice had contributed to him playing just 20 out of a possible 72 games for the club.
"My position is centre and second row and the Warriors have some big name players in those spots, so it's obviously been hard for myself to get a start, let alone just play off the bench," he said.
"Those positions are not in high demand here, there is high competition in those positions I play.
"Cappy [coach Andrew McFadden] chucked me a lifeline last year because I sort of wasn't going anywhere.
"Those last few games that I played at the back end of last year gave me an opportunity to stay."
Aside from finishing the Telstra Premiership season with the Warriors, Peyroux has another important piece of business to take care of before settling in the UK, with his second child due in January.
"We are thinking of having the baby over in Australia, I think it will just be easier in the long run with thinking about living over in Australia," he said.
"But my missus [Grace] and son [Ma'quez, 2,] are happy to come over to experience that side of things, and we can't wait to go over and experience the lifestyle in the UK."
This Saturday against the Panthers Peyroux will make his fifth first-grade appearance of the year, named in the centres for a clash which shapes as a must-win if the Warriors are to keep their finals hopes alive.
